The Department of Agriculture โ Crop Biotechnology Center (DA-CBC) highlights its continuing efforts to advance biotechnology research and innovation for agriculture and crop development to over 800 students, researchers, and farmers during the National Biotechnology Week (NBW) 2026.
Held last September 21โ24, 2026, at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Multipurpose Hall in Quezon City, the annual celebration brought together government agencies, academic institutions, researchers, students, and other biotechnology stakeholders under the theme, โBiotek para sa Kinabukasan: Kalikasan, Kalusugan, Kagandahan, Kabuhayan, at Kaunlaran.โ
As part of the celebration, the DA-CBC showcased its ongoing projects, studies, and research initiatives through its exhibit booth. It provided visitors with an opportunity to learn more about the Centerโs work and its contributions to crop biotechnology, while highlighting research outputs and initiatives that demonstrate the potential of biotechnology in supporting crop improvement.
Beyond presenting research and technologies, the DA-CBC exhibit also provided visitors with opportunities for hands-on learning through the do-it-yourself (DIY) DNA extraction demonstration, which allowed students to experience a basic biotechnology procedure outside a conventional laboratory setting.
DA-CBCโs participation also formed part of the broader efforts of NBW to promote responsible and science-based biotechnology. Among the highlights of the celebration was the signing of the Digital Wall of Commitment, where participating partner agencies reaffirmed their support for the responsible advancement and application of biotechnology for the benefit of society and the environment.
The National Biotechnology Week is an annual celebration established through Proclamation No. 1414, s. 2007, which recognizes the importance of biotechnology in national development. Beginning in 2026, the celebration was moved to September pursuant to Proclamation No. 921, s. 2025, further strengthening efforts to promote public awareness and understanding of biotechnology and its applications.
