๐Ÿ’ก DID YOU KNOW? A motherโ€™s body can produce enough breastmilk for her baby!

Almost all mothers can make enough milk, especially when the baby is breastfed often and on demand.

The more the baby suckles, the more milk the body produces. This is because frequent feeding sends a signal to the motherโ€™s body to keep making milk.

Experts from the Department of Health recommend early, frequent, and exclusive breastfeeding to help build and maintain a good milk supply, ensuring that babies receive all the nutrition they need for the first six months of life.

Poblacion, Tubod, Lanao del Norte | July 31, 2026 โ€” As part of the celebration of National Nutrition Month 2026, the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Tubod, Lanao del Norte conducted a community-based nutrition activity at the Barangay Poblacion Hall, bringing together pregnant women, lactating mothers, and mothers with children under five years old to promote healthy nutrition, proper dietary practices, and maternal and child health.

The activity was headed by Municipal Health Officer Dr. Maria Filipina C. Camins, who emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, particularly among pregnant and lactating women and young children. The discussion highlighted the role of proper nutrition, regular physical activity, adequate rest, personal health practices, and appropriate health-seeking behaviors in promoting the overall well-being of mothers and children.

A key part of the activity was the discussion on Pinggang Pinoy, which provided participants with practical guidance on achieving a balanced and nutritious diet. The participants were encouraged to follow the recommended proportions of Go, Grow, and Glow foods and to make healthier food choices using locally available and affordable food resources. The discussion also emphasized the importance of proper nutrition during pregnancy, lactation, and the early years of a child's life, when adequate nutrition is essential for healthy growth and development.

As part of the nutrition intervention, more than 70 pregnant and lactating mothers and mothers with children under five years old were provided with essential food and nutrition commodities. The distributed commodities included rice and monggo, as well as micronutrient powder and multivitamins for children and pregnant women, intended to support their nutritional needs and complement the dietary supplementation efforts of the local nutrition program.

The activity also served as an opportunity to gather important health and nutrition information from the participants. The RHU team conducted vital signs monitoring and anthropometric measurements, including appropriate measurements for mothers and children, to help establish and update the nutrition and health profiles of the beneficiaries. These data will contribute to the monitoring of their health and nutritional status and may serve as a basis for providing appropriate follow-up interventions and support.

The successful implementation of the activity was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the RHU staff, Barangay Nutrition Committees, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs). Their collective efforts ensured the smooth registration, profiling, health assessment, nutrition education, and distribution of commodities to the beneficiaries.

More than just a celebration, the activity demonstrated the importance of bringing nutrition services directly to communities. By combining nutrition education, health assessment, profiling, and dietary supplementation, the initiative strengthened the local government's commitment to protecting the health and nutritional well-being of mothers and children.

The activity further reinforced the message that achieving adequate nutrition requires collective action. Through the continued partnership of the Local Government Unit of Tubod, RHU, barangay officials, BNS, BHWs, and the community, nutrition interventions can reach those who need them most and contribute to building healthier families and a healthier community.

As Tubod continues its Nutrition Month initiatives, the activity in Barangay Poblacion serves as a reminder that nutrition is not only about providing foodโ€”it is about empowering families with knowledge, access, and support to make healthier choices and ensure a better future for every mother and child.

VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon โ€”Tongantongan National High School emerged as the champion during the Nutrition Quiz Bee 2026, held at Robinsons Mall Valencia as one of the highlight activities of the city's celebration of the 2026 Nutrition Month. The event was held last 24 July 2026.

Organized by the City Nutrition and Human Physical Development Division (CNHPDD), the competition gathered Senior High School students from 17 participating schools across Valencia City to showcase their knowledge of nutrition, food security, healthy lifestyles, and related public health concepts.

The activity was spearheaded by City Nutrition Action Officer Hazel P. Dondonayos, RND, MGA, with Myra Dianne C. Virtudazo, RND and Guia Mae A. Rubio, RND serving as event coordinators. Maureen Chyn F. Donato, RND served as the Quiz Master.

Contestants were provided with illustration boards, chalk, and erasers before the start of the competition, which was conducted in three rounds designed to test both knowledge and analytical skills.

The Preliminary Round featured 20 multiple-choice questions, from which the top 10 schools advanced to the Semi-Final Round. The field was further narrowed after 15 identification questions, with Valencia National High School, Tongantongan National High School, Catumbalon National High School, Bukidnon Faith Christian School, Inc., and Philippine College Foundation qualifying for the championship round.

The Final Round followed a multiple-choice format with an unlimited number of questions until one team reached the top spot, resulting in a closely contested competition among the finalists.

Represented by Jhanell O. Camingawan and Mary Sofia C. Diwan, Tongantongan National High School claimed the championship title after demonstrating exceptional knowledge and teamwork throughout the competition. Valencia National High School, represented by John Ernie Y. Delantes and Nicole Jane N. Tangcogo, finished as first runner-up, while Bukidnon Faith Christian School, Incorporated, represented by Kyra Rianne A. Pamakid and Leila Czarina L. Alisoso, secured second runner-up honors.

The Nutrition Quiz Bee forms part of the city's continuing efforts to promote nutrition education among young people and encourage students to become advocates of health. Beyond recognizing academic excellence, the competition provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of nutrition issues while fostering teamwork, critical thinking, and sportsmanship.

Through initiatives such as the Nutrition Quiz Bee, the City Government of Valencia, through the CNHPDD, continues to strengthen community awareness on proper nutrition and support the goals of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition by empowering the youth to become informed partners in building healthier communities.

The Valencia City Nutrition and Human Physical Development Division (CNHPDD) successfully conducted the 2026 Nutrition Symposium last July 13, 2026, at the Youth Hub, City Gymnasium and Cultural Center in Valencia City, bringing together youth leaders and representatives from various youth organizations in celebration of the 52nd National Nutrition Month.

Anchored on the theme โ€œSa PPAN, Sama-Sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat!โ€ and the sub-theme โ€œNutrisyon at Kalikasan, Ating Pangalagaan!โ€, the symposium aimed to empower the youth to become advocates of proper nutrition, environmental stewardship, and climate action through expert-led discussions and interactive learning activities.

In her welcome message, Ms. Hazel P. Dondonayos, RND, MGA, Nutrition Officer IV and City Nutrition Action Officer, emphasized the important role of young people in promoting healthy lifestyles and sustainable environmental practices within their homes, schools, and communities. She encouraged the participants to become active partners in advancing nutrition and environmental advocacy toward building healthier and more resilient communities.

The symposium featured three resource speakers who shared practical knowledge on nutrition and sustainability. Mr. Julius M. Parian, City Environment and Natural Resources Officer discussed "Environmental Protection and Climate Action for Sustainable Food Systems," highlighting the importance of conserving natural resources to ensure food security and improved nutrition. Rhea Jean Rodriguez, Senior Agriculturist from the City Agriculture Office, presented "Climate-Smart Agriculture and Sustainable Food Production," introducing sustainable farming practices that help strengthen food systems amid the challenges of climate change. Meanwhile, Julie Ann C. Brigoli, RND, LPT, Nutrition Officer II and City Nutrition Program Coordinator, delivered a session on "Healthy Food Choices for Adolescent Youth," encouraging participants to make informed food choices and adopt healthier eating habits to support lifelong wellness.

To foster active participation, interactive icebreakers and audience engagement activities were conducted between sessions, creating an enjoyable and dynamic learning environment while reinforcing the symposium's key messages.

The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates to the resource speakers and participants. During the closing program, Ms. Guia Mae A. Rubio, RND, Nutritionist-Dietitian I and City Nutrition Program Coordinator, expressed her appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the event and challenged the youth to become champions of nutrition and environmental sustainability in their respective communities.

The 2026 Nutrition Symposium forms part of Valencia City's continuing efforts to strengthen youth engagement in nutrition advocacy and support the goals of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN). By equipping young people with knowledge and practical actions on nutrition and environmental protection, the City Government of Valencia continues to nurture informed, responsible, and health-conscious citizens who can contribute to building a healthier and more sustainable future.
