MENRO Paluan actively participated in the Mindoro Hornbill Monitoring Training held on April 21โ24, 2026, spearheaded by Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc. (MBCFI), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through the Mt. Calavite Wildlife Sanctuary Protected Area Management Office, and Philippine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc.
The activity focused on strengthening capacities in landscape-level synchronized bio-monitoring, using hornbills as indicator species, and included actual field application through synchronized bird observations across multiple 2-km transects and habitat characterization within Mt. Calavite Wildlife Sanctuary.
Around 30 participants composed of DENR technical personnel (PENROs and CENROs), protected area rangers, Indigenous Peoples from Mt. Halcon, environment officers from Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, and the MBCFI technical team took part in the activity.
๐ฑ The training resulted in the documentation of additional bird species and notable plant species not previously recorded in Mindoro, along with key recommendations to further enhance conservation strategies in the area.
MENROโs participation underscores our commitment to science-based conservation, strong partnerships, and the protection of Mindoroโs rich biodiversity.
