The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through Negosyo Center Pigcawayan, conducted a Financial Literacy Training at the PTC-TESDA Compound, equipping local beneficiaries with essential financial management skills.

The activity was organized upon the request of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), facilitated through the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (LEDIPO) of Pigcawayan. Participants included members of the KALIPI Beneficiaries and Single Parent Beneficiaries eager to enhance their financial knowledge and capabilities.

The training opened with an introduction by JBC Jade Angelie Muyco, who presented an overview of the Department of Trade and Industry, its key programs and services, and the objectives of the activity. This was followed by a series of informative discussions led by DTI personnel, each focusing on critical aspects of financial literacy and entrepreneurship.

JBC Ivan Ulysses Lim discussed digital e-wallets in the Philippines, highlighting the functions and benefits of platforms such as GCash and Maya. He emphasized how these digital payment solutions provide convenient, secure, and accessible means of conducting financial transactions, especially for small entrepreneurs and individuals in rural communities.

The session on financial literacy, facilitated by JBC Stephen Frondozo, focused on practical approaches to budgeting, saving, responsible spending, and financial planning. Participants were encouraged to adopt disciplined money management practices to achieve financial stability and improve their quality of life.

Meanwhile, JBC Annie Rose Lapera led the discussion on basic accounting and bookkeeping, providing participants with simple yet effective techniques in record-keeping. Hands-on exercises were incorporated to help attendees better understand how to track income and expenses, an essential skill for managing both personal finances and small businesses.

The training served as a vital platform for empowering beneficiaries through financial education, enabling them to make informed decisions and build sustainable livelihoods. It also reflected the collaborative efforts of government agencies in delivering responsive and inclusive community-based programs.

Through initiatives such as this, DTI continues to strengthen its commitment to promoting financial inclusion, entrepreneurship development, and accessible business support servicesโ€”ultimately fostering resilient and self-sustaining communities. -end-
