The Municipal Development Council (MDC) convened on May 07, 2026 to deliberate on and approve the 2027 Gender and Development (GAD) Plan, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund Investment Plan (MDRRMFIP), 2026–2028 Local Development Investment Program (LDIP), and the 2027 Annual Investment Program (AIP) of the municipality.

The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Evelyn Sion, President of the Batad Market Vendors and Stall Owners Association and Co-Chairperson of the MDC- composed of Punong Barangays, CSO representatives, and local officials.

During the meeting, the savings generated from fully implemented projects funded under the 20% Development Fund of the LGU in prior years were likewise presented and officially declared as savings by the MDC, making the funds available for appropriation to other lined-up priority development projects of the municipality.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The Local Government Unit of Batad took the lead in presenting the proposed Alapasco Integrated Area Development Plan during a consultative meeting, highlighting its commitment to advancing sustainable initiatives for Brgy. Alapasco. The discussion, held at the Governor’s Office, was facilitated by Regional Executive Director Raul L. Lorilla to align development strategies.

This undertaking was attended by Mayor Elvira P. Alarcon, Vice Mayor Steven Michael Y. Andrada, select LGU department heads, representatives from the Iloilo Provincial Government and key officials from NIA and the DENR, including Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Edgardo M. Rostata, PENRO Iloilo Salvador C. Manglinong, Jr., CENRO Antonio Latoza, Jr., and other technical personnel.

The proposed plan aims to uplift the quality of life of residents while promoting environmental stewardship, strengthening ecological resilience, and enhancing community self-reliance. It also focuses on empowering local institutions and developing sustainable livelihoods, including agri-ecotourism initiatives aligned with existing land use and forest land use plans.

𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐋𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝

𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐈𝐍: Tonight, the Municipaity of Batad was honored for its outstanding commitment to environmental protection, earning the the LGU-Led Ecological Stewardship Award at the Daily Guardian Green Awards held at the Iloilo Convention Center on April 29, 2026.

The Municipality of Batad received the recognition for its exemplary initiative, “A Pocket Forest of Hope: An Arboretum of Philippine Native Trees,” which highlights how shared responsibility between local government and citizens can translate into meaningful, long-term ecological impact.

The award was formally received by Mayor Elvira P. Alarcon and MENRO Samuel B. de la Vega Jr., who represented the municipality during the ceremony.

Organized by Daily Guardian, the LGU-Led Ecological Stewardship Award honors local government units that successfully engage their communities as active partners in environmental protection, demonstrating that collective action is key to achieving lasting change.

April 14, 2026 DOST and LGU-Batad holds Project End Meeting for Sustainability Planning for the project: Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) 2.0: Pathway to a GREATER Batad, at the SB Session Hall, Batad, Iloilo.

The project, funded by DOST-Region VI and implemented by LGU-Batad through the MPDO, with the Iloilo Provincial Government ( IPG)-LEDIPO as Cooperating Agency started in February 2, 2025 until February 3, 2026.

Present in the activity were Provincial Science and Technology (PSTO)-Iloilo Officials and staff, IPG-LEDIPO representative, Mayor Elvira Alarccon, VM Steven Michael Y. Andrada,, SB Member Balete, representatives from various partners and beneficiary groups: Babaye Bangon Batad Association, Cabagohan Farmers’ Association, Tapi-an Farmer’s Association, Barangay Tapi-an, Pasayan Primary School, Tanao Elementary School, Valerio P. Palmares National High School, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the MPDO-Batad.

During this activity, the Terminal Report and Sustainability Plan for the project was presented by the Project Leader and MPDC of the municipality, while the beneficiaries also shared testimonies on how the project has helped their organizations, including their respective sustainability plans-aimed at ensuring that the gains from the project will continue and translate to true community empowerment and help forge a GREATER Batad.

MPDO Batad successfully facilitated the 2026 1st Quarter Assessment and Planning of LGU Batad on April 7–8, 2026.

The activity gathered municipal officials led by Mayor Elvira Alarcon and Vice Mayor Steven Michael Y. Andrada, department heads and other key LGU personnel, Batad MPS and BFP representative and personnel, and Engr. Regil Gumayan of DILG-Batad.

Highlights of the activity included the presentation of 1st Quarter Physical and Financial Report of Operations of the various offices, 2nd Quarter plans, and discussions on budget utilization, implementation challenges and other key governance concerns.

The event also hosted the Executive and Legislative Meeting, fostering synergy, collaboration and shared responsibility for a GREATER Batad.
