📍On Day 2 of MAY-KAN LEG 4 | Discovering the Flavors of the North,

The Department of Tourism R1 visited the tinapa factory of Ma'am Rowena Galinato in Barangay Bayaoas, Urdaneta City.

Here, they witnessed and participated in the traditional tinapa-making — a proud culinary heritage that showcases the artistry of preparing smoked fish the Ilocano way. This hands-on demonstration highlighted how local food traditions are preserved and passed down, connecting visitors to the authentic flavors of the region.

After the factory visit, the journey continued with a Palengke Tour at the Bagsakan Market known as "Divisoria of the North" along Poblacion Caviganan Street, where the vibrant trading culture of Urdaneta came alive through fresh produce, local delicacies, and community exchange.

🍴Northern Flavors, Kulinarya Pride!🍴

Day 1 - May 28, 2026

Yesterday, Magic Mall Urdaneta City became the stage for the “May‑Kan” Gastronomic Experience, led by the Department of Tourism (National, Region I, Province, and City of Urdaneta). 🌟

👨‍🍳 DOT Regional Director Benjamin D. Manahan Jr. witnessed five outstanding culinary chefs ignite the Kulinarya Wars, each showcasing their unique artistry with the celebrated Tinapang Manok of Rowena Galinato

👏 With the support of our sponsors — Superkalan, Magic Mall Urdaneta, and Rowena’s smoked fish est. 1950— the event honored tradition, innovation, and the rich culinary heritage of the North.

🙏A very big thanks to Mayor Julio F. Parayno III for his unwavering support 🫰🫰🫰.

📸 Relive the flavors, the passion, and the pride that made this gastronomic journey unforgettable! 💛
