Empowering the Youth Through Life-Saving Skills

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Pontevedra successfully conducted a Basic First Aid Training for the young members of Gethsemane Baptist Church of Caingin Pontevedra on April 18, 2026, held at the MDRRM Conference Hall.

A total of 20 participants actively joined the training, which aimed to equip them with essential knowledge and practical skills in handling emergency situations. The session covered fundamental first aid techniques, enabling the youth to respond effectively and confidently during accidents and medical emergencies.

This activity also serves as part of the preparation of the church for their upcoming Summer Youth Camp scheduled on April 21–23, 2026. By providing first aid training in advance, participants are better prepared to ensure safety and immediate response during the said event.

The MDRRMO remains steadfast in its commitment to continuously capacitate communities through training and education. By empowering the youth with life-saving skills, the office contributes to building a culture of preparedness and resilience—making Pontevedra a safer and more disaster-resilient municipality.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Pontevedra actively participated in a Mangrove Planting Activity spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines on April 18, 2026, held at the coastal area of Barangay Recreo, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.

This initiative forms part of the month-long celebration of Environmental Conservation Month, bringing together various sectors of the municipality—including local government units, barangay officials, , and community volunteers—in a unified effort to protect and rehabilitate the coastal ecosystem.

Mangrove planting is a vital environmental action with far-reaching benefits. Mangroves serve as natural barriers against storm surges, coastal erosion, and flooding—making them essential in disaster risk reduction, especially for coastal communities like Pontevedra. In addition, these ecosystems provide breeding grounds for marine life, support local fisheries, and contribute to carbon sequestration, helping mitigate the effects of climate change.

Through active participation in this initiative, the MDRRMO reinforces its commitment not only to disaster preparedness and response but also to proactive risk reduction through environmental stewardship. Activities like this highlight the importance of collaboration and community involvement in building a safer, more resilient, and sustainable future.

Together, let us continue to protect our environment—because every seedling planted today is a step toward a safer tomorrow. 🌿💚
