IN THE NEWS:

The UP Film Institute (UPFI), through its Film Archives and Library, moves to preserve the Cesar Hernando Collection of Philippine Cinema Memorabilia (Cesar Hernando Collection) using open and collaborative digital tools.

According to the UPFI, the initiative seeks to safeguard the said collection and provide research access to the public.

The Cesar Hernando Collection was turned over by artist and cultural entrepreneur Katya Guerrero to the UPFI in August 2025. It “features over 3,000 photographs, 300 film posters, various audiovisual materials, and 60 digital discs reflecting Hernando’s unmatched legacy as a production designer, visual artist, and filmmaker whose work helped shape the visual language of modern Philippine cinema,” the UPFI states.

🚨 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘄 𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗣𝗗 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳: “𝗜𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗸 𝗻'𝘆𝗼 𝗻𝗮 𝗽𝗼 𝗸𝗮𝗺𝗶 𝘀𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝗻𝘇𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘇 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹!”
Nanawagan ang mga kawani ng Aklatan na agarang maibalik ang Main Library sa Gonzalez Hall at tuluyang matapos ang matagal nang renobasyon nito. Sa kasalukuyan, nalilimitahan ang mga kawani sa pagbibigay ng maayos na serbisyo dahil sa kakulangan sa espasyo at pagkakahiwa-hiwalay ng mga opisina at koleksyon. Sa ngayon, ang Main Library ay nag-oopisina sa Environmental and Energy Engineering Bldg., at Old Chemical Engineering Laboratory Bldg., samantalang ang malaking bahagi ng koleksyon ay nasa hiwalay pang gusali sa Computer Science Bldg.
Taong 2019, noong simulan ang renobasyon ng Gonzalez Hall sa layong maiangkop ang pangkabuuang disenyo at mga pasilidad nito sa mga makabagong pamantayan. Ang inisyatibang ito ay bahagi ng Build! Build! Build! infrastructure project ng administrasyong Duterte at pinaglaanan ng humigit-kumulang 400 milyong piso. Gayunpaman, makikita sa estado ng gusali na hindi pa rin naisasakatuparan ang pagtapos sa renobasyon nito at patuloy na naantala hanggang sa kasalukuyan.

These highlights capture moments from the two-day workshop where student organizations came together to learn about archiving practices, ethics and access, digital preservation, and archival planning for their own organizations.

Through conversations, hands-on activities, and shared reflections, participants explored how caring for records is also a way of caring for the histories and communities that shape the University.

Three weeks ago, we concluded DAY 2 of 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗧𝗢 𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗖𝗬: A Seminar-Workshop on Archiving for Student Organizations at the UPFI Film Center. 📚✨

The second day focused on digital archiving and preservation, where participants explored practical tools for organizing and safeguarding their organizations’ records. Student representatives also began drafting archival plans for their own organizations, turning ideas from the first day into concrete steps toward sustaining their collective histories.

Through collaboration and shared learning, the workshop highlighted how documentation can become an act of care—ensuring that the stories, advocacies, and experiences of student organizations continue to be remembered and passed on.

Thank you to all participants who joined us for both days and contributed to building a culture of archiving within the University.

Three weeks ago, student organizations gathered at the UPFI Film Center for 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗧𝗢 𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗖𝗬: A Seminar-Workshop on Archiving for Student Organizations. 📚✨

Here are some photos from DAY 1 (February 19, 2026), where participants were introduced to the fundamentals of archiving and explored important conversations on ethics and access in archives. Throughout the day, student leaders reflected on how their organizations’ documents, photos, and records are not just files to keep—but stories that shape the collective memory of the University.
