Naghatid ng maiksing seminar pa tungkol sa industriya at produksyon ng itik Pinas at maiksing pag sasanay sa pag gawa ng salted egg ang mga tauhan ng BAI-NSPRDC-TIAONG na sina 𝐌𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐚, Project Assistant at 𝐌𝐬. 𝐋𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐡𝐢𝐬,LAgr, Admin Aide 4 at ang ilan sa staff nito.

Ang nasabing seminar/training ay naging matagumpay sa tulong ng
SK President ng Brgy. Antonino na si 𝐌𝐫. 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐲 𝐀𝐥𝐜𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐫 at ang mga kasamahan nito sa barangay. Ito ay patunay ng kanilang dedikasyon at pagpapakita ng kanilang kontribusyon sa pagpapalago sa kakayahan ng mga kabataan sa kanilang komunidad. Ito ay isa lamang sa mga proyektong basta nagsama sama at nagtulong tulong ay kayang kaya!. 🫡💪

Kami ay lubos na nagpapasalamat sa mga nakilahok, tumulong at naglaan ng oras upang maging matagumpay ang seminar/training na ito, nawa'y ang inyong mga natutunan at nalaman ay magamit ninyo upang mas mapaunlad hindi lamang ang sarili kundi ang buong komunidad, dahil hindi lang ito natatapos sa natuto ka lang dahil pede mo din ipasa sa iba ang natutunan mo.

The name was chosen through the participation of the SciComare and SciCompare sa SciComunidad ng Mindanao.

Congratulations to the project team led by Dr. Leonilo Abella, and to Mr. Oscar Francisco for this significant contribution through the naming of ZAMPUERCO.

More than a name, represents a significant milestone for Western Mindanao, reflecting a heritage deeply rooted in the region’s culture, identity, and agricultural traditions. It stands as a symbol of a locally developed innovation that the people of the region can proudly call truly their own.

Matagumpay na isinagawa noong Mayo 19, 2026 ang BAI-NSPRDC Challenge: “Ulamin ang Balut” Cooking Contest, isang patimpalak na naglalayong ipakita ang kakaibang galing at pagkamalikhain sa paglikha ng mga makabagong putahe gamit ang balut bilang pangunahing sangkap. Layunin din nitong mapalawak ang kaalaman ng publiko sa iba’t ibang paraan ng paghahanda ng balut at mabigyan ng dagdag na halaga ang isa sa mga kilalang produktong Pilipino.

Ang patimpalak na ito ay hindi lamang pagpapakita ng husay sa pagluluto kundi isang hakbang upang higit pang mapalakas ang industriya ng balut sa bansa. Sa pamamagitan ng mga makabagong recipe at produktong maaaring likhain mula sa balut, nabibigyan ng mas maraming oportunidad ang mga lokal na magbabalut, duck raisers, at maliliit na negosyante upang mapataas ang kita at mapalawak ang merkado ng kanilang produkto.

Mahalaga rin ang ganitong programa sa sektor ng agrikultura dahil hinihikayat nito ang value-adding innovation, food entrepreneurship, at paggamit ng lokal na produkto bilang bahagi ng pagpapalago ng kabuhayan at seguridad sa pagkain. Patunay ito na sa pamamagitan ng pagkakaisa, pananaliksik, at pagkamalikhain, mas lalo pang aangat ang industriyang agrikultural ng Pilipinas.

𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙦𝙪𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙨!🥚🐣✨

The National Swine and Poultry Research and Development Center recently held a fun and meaningful in-office cooking challenge titled “𝙉𝙎𝙋𝙍𝘿𝘾 - 𝙐𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝘽𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙩 𝘾𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙨𝙩”, bringing together its dedicated workers and staff to turn an oversupply issue into an opportunity for innovation. With the recent news highlighting the abundance of duck eggs and balut, this small initiative became a platform to showcase how a familiar Filipino delicacy can be transformed into exciting and diverse dishes.

More than just a friendly competition, the activity encouraged participants to explore new ways of preparing balut—proving that it can go beyond its usual form and become a versatile ingredient in everyday meals. From savory creations to bold flavor combinations, the contest highlighted the creativity and resourcefulness of the team while promoting appreciation for locally produced food.

• Originality of Dish – 30%
• Visual Appeal / Plating – 15%
• Clarity of Explanation of Dish – 15%

and with the help of our judges, Mr. Emmanuel Ancheta, Farm Manager from Calungsod Integrated Farm, Ms. Marjorie Sepina, OIC of DA R4A - Qares and Mr. Joaquin Enrique Evangelista, Chef from a private company, We from NSPRDC are very thankful in showing your expertise and giving us time and efforts in choosing our winners for this event.

Also, to make the contest more exciting, the winners receive small prizes and certificate in their participation for their efforts and time in making their dishes and with this we would like to give our gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Ian Cabriga, Santiago Winery and Sarimanok Poultry.

According to our Center Chief Doc Rene Caparas Santiago this initiative reflects the importance of supporting our agricultural sector and finding practical, community-driven solutions to challenges like oversupply. By reimagining balut as a main dish, we not only reduce waste but also inspire others to see its potential—turning a simple egg into something worth celebrating on every Filipino table.

📸🐝🌿 The 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 was successfully conducted through the BAI-Bee Program and the BAI National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP) of the Bureau of Animal Industry on May 14, 2026 at the Quezon Agricultural Research and Experiment Station located in Brgy. Lagalag, Tiaong, Quezon.

The training gathered participants from different municipalities of Quezon specifically Tiaong, Candelaria, Dolores, Sariaya and San Antonio to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in the manipulation, propagation, and proper management of native stingless bees. The activity highlighted the importance of beekeeping as a sustainable agricultural practice that contributes to environmental conservation and food production.

We, from BAI-NUPAP are very thankful to our dedicated and hardworking experts, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐃𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐍. 𝐃𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐨, Head of the Extension and Training Unit of BRITE; and 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐓. 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐨, BRITE Center Director for sharing valuable discussions and demonstrations on the proper care of stingless bees, colony maintenance, and the benefits of integrating beekeeping into urban and peri-urban agriculture initiatives. Also, we would like to acknowledge and give our outmost gratitude to the BAI BEE Program Focal Ms. Andy Arbues in making this training possible and to the the whole team of BEE Program and BAI NUPAP in providing assistance and time to make this project a success. Participants were also encouraged to adopt innovative and environment-friendly practices that support biodiversity and community livelihood opportunities.

Through this initiative, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) - National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program and BAI BEE Program continues to promote sustainable agriculture while empowering local communities with skills and knowledge that can help improve productivity, nutrition, and economic opportunities. The program also emphasized the significant role of pollinators in maintaining ecological balance and agricultural sustainability.

The successful conduct of the training reflects the collective commitment of government agencies, agricultural institutions, and community stakeholders in advancing resilient and sustainable farming practices. Together, let us continue supporting programs that protect our environment, strengthen food security, and create greener and healthier communities for future generations. 🌱🍯
