In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME) Program, the DTI–Cordillera Administrative Region (DTI-CAR) gathered KMME mentees from across the Cordillera region in Baguio City for the KMME graduation ceremony held during the 2026 Cordillera MSME Summit on July 22, 2026, at the University of the Cordilleras Theater.
DTI–CAR proudly recognized the 14 entrepreneurs from the Province of Kalinga, along with the other graduates from the other provinces, who successfully completed the Kapatid Mentor ME–Money Market Encounter (KMME-MME) Batch 2026, marking a significant milestone in their entrepreneurial journey.
Among the highlights of the event was the recognition of top-performing mentees in the BIP Presentation, with Mr. Rudy M. Gerlaban of Mayumi Jay Integrated Farm securing 1st Place for Batch 1.
This milestone celebrates not only the graduates’ achievements but also their commitment to innovation, growth, and entrepreneurship. Equipped with new knowledge, mentorship, and stronger business networks, they are ready to contribute to the economic development of Kalinga and the Cordillera region.

Tanudan Recognizes Outstanding Coffee Farmers in the 2nd Coffee Quality Competition

Tanudan, Kalinga | June 25, 2026 – The winners of the 2nd Tanudan Coffee Quality Competition were officially recognized during the celebration of the 63rd Tanudan Founding Anniversary and 11th KAPI Festival held in Banagao, Poblacion, Tanudan, Kalinga. The competition aimed to promote the production of high-quality coffee while recognizing the dedication, skills, and craftsmanship of coffee farmers across the municipality. Simultaneously, visitors and participants enjoyed a Brewing and Public Coffee Tasting Activity facilitated by JAC Farms, which showcased the distinct flavors and exceptional quality of locally produced Tanudan coffee alongside coffee from other provinces.

Coffee growers from the different barangays of Tanudan were encouraged to participate during the orientation held on March 9, 2026, at the 2nd Floor, Legislative Building, Banagao, Poblacion, Tanudan, Kalinga. From the entries received, six coffee samples, each consisting of 15 to 20 kilograms of green coffee beans, qualified for the final evaluation conducted by the Coffee Grading Team and the Technical Working Group (TWG).

The competition officially commenced on June 1, 2026, and underwent a series of rigorous evaluation stages, including green bean grading, scientific coffee roasting, and coffee cupping. All entries were evaluated following internationally recognized coffee quality competition standards, ensuring a fair, transparent, and credible judging process.

The Board of Judges, composed of three certified coffee graders and cuppers and chaired by Ms. Marietta D. Claver, officially declared the results of the competition. The winners were announced during the anniversary and festival celebration, highlighting the exceptional quality and market potential of Tanudan coffee.

The winners of the 2nd Tanudan Coffee Quality Competition were:

Top 1 – Pablito C. Asiw of Sitio Gombowoy, Barangay Pangol, received a β‚±20,000 cash prize.
Top 2 – Eskailyn A. Baggas of Barangay Mabaca, received a β‚±15,000 cash prize.
Top 3 – Albina B. Taguitag of Barangay Anggacan, received a β‚±10,000 cash prize.

In addition, Mr. Pablito C. Asiw received the Special Recognition Award for the Most Improved Coffee Farm, in recognition of his compliance with established coffee farm management standards. He was awarded an additional β‚±5,000 cash incentive. To recognize the efforts of all participants, the non-winning entries also received β‚±5,000 each as consolation prizes.

The awarding ceremony concluded with a Commitment of Support from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Kalinga and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Kalinga. Representing DTI Kalinga, Provincial Director Renie M. Ramos reaffirmed the agency's continued partnership and collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Tanudan in enhancing and strengthening the municipality's coffee industry, particularly in improving coffee quality to create better market opportunities for local coffee farmers. In the absence of DOST Kalinga representatives, the agency's message of commitment was delivered by Jeffrey Pasikan, Secretariat of the Kalinga Coffee Council.

The successful conduct of the 2nd Tanudan Coffee Quality Competition reflects the municipality's growing commitment to producing premium, high-quality coffee and empowering local farmers through continuous quality improvement, innovation, and strong collaboration among government agencies, industry partners, and stakeholders. The competition serves as a significant step toward positioning Tanudan as a producer of world-class specialty coffee while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for its coffee farming communities.

Play, Learn, Prosper: Enhancing Financial Skills Through the BEST Game πŸŽ²πŸ“ŠπŸ’‘
The Business Expense and Savings Training Game cm Product Packaging and Labelling was successfully conducted on June 17, 2026 at Brgy. Cagaluan, Pasil, Kalinga, bringing together the members of the Urnos on Nadiosan Ampayon Sagsaggatan Association (UNAS) to strengthen their financial management and entrepreneurial skills.
The activity began with a product labeling and packaging session where participants presented their existing products and received guidance on improving design, presentation, and marketability. In the afternoon, the BEST Game provided an interactive business simulation where participants practiced managing expenses, savings, and financial decisions in a real-life enterprise setting.
The training concluded with a visit to the group’s processing and storage area, allowing facilitators to assess operations and identify areas for improvement. Overall, the activity enhanced participants’ financial discipline, decision-making, and enterprise management capabilities.
This endeavor would not have been possible without the strong collaboration and support of the DSWD Kalinga and the Brgy. Cagaluan LGU, whose partnership was instrumental to its successful implementation.

JUST CONCLUDED!!!!

On May 25, 2026, the Entrepreneurship Skills Training on Rice-Based Snack Production was successfully conducted at the Calaocan Barangay Hall in Calaocan, Rizal, Kalinga, with a total of 35 participants attending the activity. The training aimed to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills in producing rice-based snack products, particularly Rice Chicharon, as a potential livelihood and entrepreneurial opportunity.

The activity formally opened with welcome remarks from Calaocan Barangay Captain Hon. Harold Banga-an, who warmly welcomed the participants and expressed his support for programs that promote entrepreneurship and community livelihood development.

Mayor Karl Bugao P. Baac, through his representative Mr. Lester Paculla, also delivered an inspirational message encouraging the participants to maximize the knowledge and skills they would gain from the training. He emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship in improving household income and strengthening the local economy.

One of the highlights of the activity was the actual demonstration on how to make Rice Chicharon conducted by the resource speaker, Ms. Jean Venus Malawi, owner of MeSHeRep Chicharon Manufacturing. She shared her expertise, techniques, and experiences in producing quality rice chicharon products, giving participants practical insights into the production process and business opportunities in the snack industry.

In addition, Mr. Junefri Macaranas discussed important topics on how to start a business, including basic entrepreneurial concepts, product packaging, and proper labeling of products. His discussion provided participants with valuable information on improving product presentation and complying with labeling requirements.

Meanwhile, Ms. Maria Cecilia Baral discussed consumer advocacy, emphasizing the rights and responsibilities of both consumers and entrepreneurs. She highlighted the importance of producing safe, quality, and properly labeled products to ensure consumer protection and satisfaction.

The training concluded successfully with active participation and engagement from the attendees. The activity provided participants with practical knowledge and inspiration to pursue small business opportunities in rice-based snack production, contributing to livelihood development within the community.
