CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro โ€” A man was arrested while suspected illegally transported lumber was confiscated following an operation conducted by personnel of the Odiongan Municipal Police Station (MPS) in Barangay Bangon, Odiongan, Romblon on June 3, 2026.

The operation was launched after police received information from a concerned citizen regarding the transport of suspected undocumented lumber within the municipality.

Acting on the report, personnel of Odiongan MPS, immediately proceeded to the area and intercepted a horse-drawn carriage transporting assorted lumber believed to be of Mahogany species.

The driver, a 54-year-old farmer from Odiongan, was unable to present documents covering the transport of the forest products, prompting his arrest for alleged violation of Section 68 of Presidential Decree No. 705, otherwise known as the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines, as amended.

Recovered during the operation were assorted pieces of lumber with a total volume of 211.99 board feet and an estimated market value of โ‚ฑ10,599.50.

The arrested individual, together with the confiscated lumber, was brought to Odiongan MPS for documentation and proper disposition.

Police also coordinated with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for species identification, measurement, and valuation of the confiscated forest products.

Appropriate charges are being prepared for filing before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor through inquest proceedings.

PRO MIMAROPA Acting Regional Director PBGEN Christopher R. Dela Cruz commended the operating personnel and acknowledged the role of the concerned citizen whose information led to the operation.

โ€œThis accomplishment shows that protecting our environment is a shared responsibility. We thank the concerned citizen who reported the activity and our personnel who immediately acted on the information. Small violations, when ignored, can contribute to bigger environmental problems. That is why we will continue to act on reports and enforce our environmental laws,โ€ PBGEN Dela Cruz said.

The operation forms part of PRO MIMAROPAโ€™s continuing efforts to support environmental law enforcement and preserve the regionโ€™s natural resources through close coordination with partner agencies and the community.
