551 FORMER REBELS GET ₱6.6-M SEED CAPITAL FOR LIVELIHOOD PROJECTS
A total of 551 former rebels and members of people’s organizations in Sultan Kudarat recently received livelihood assistance through the government’s PAMANA Livelihood Program under the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU).
This assistance, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), was awarded during a ceremony, which also included the distribution of checks and certificates of accreditation at the Sultan Kudarat Capitol.
For Soccsksargen, ₱11.7 million in socio-economic aid was allocated to 37 former rebel organizations composed of ex-members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) across the provinces of South Cotabato, Sarangani, Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat.
Likewise, 22 associations in Sultan Kudarat also received ₱300,000 each, totaling ₱6.6 million in livelihood seed funds. Fifteen of these associations comprise former members of the CPP-NPA-NDF, while seven groups consist of former members of the MNLF.
The initiative enhances the implementation of the OPAPRU Transformation Program in non-BARMM areas, with Sultan Kudarat having the highest number of beneficiary associations and livelihood projects.
OPAPRU CPP-NPA-NDF Peace Process Office Director Noli P. Mapili stressed that the program directly benefits former rebels in the province, helping them transition to peaceful and productive lives.
