🌊 Oil Spill Awareness and Emergency Response Training Successfully Conducted in Burgos, Ilocos Norte 🚒

Strengthening environmental protection through collaboration and preparedness!

The Marine Environmental Protection Group – North Western Luzon (MEPG-NWLZN) together with Marine Science Forensic and Investigation Unit- Northwestern Luzon, spearheaded by the Commander, MEPG-NWLZN in coordination with the Coast Guard Station Ilocos Norte and Coast Guard Sub-Station Burgos, successfully conducted an Oil Spill Awareness and Emergency Response Training for the community members and personnel of LGU Burgos, Ilocos Norte.

The training enhanced participants' knowledge of oil spill prevention, preparedness, response procedures, and inter-agency coordination to ensure the protection of the marine environment from pollution incidents. Through lectures and practical discussions, participants gained valuable insights into their respective roles and responsibilities during oil spill emergencies.

This activity reflects the Philippine Coast Guard's continuing commitment to building resilient coastal communities and strengthening partnerships with local government agencies in safeguarding our marine environment.

Oil Spill Awareness and Emergency Response Training (OSAERT)

LOOK | The Marine Environmental Protection Group–NWLZN, together with the Marine Environmental Protection Training and Doctrine Institute and Mitigate Safety Solution, conducted a 3-Day Oil Spill Awareness and Emergency Response Training (OSAERT) from 01–03 June 2026 for the members of 1590 Energy Corporation at Brgy. Payocpoc, Bauang, La Union.

π‹πŽπŽπŠ: In line with the celebration of the 28th MEPCOM Anniversary, MEPG-NWLZN and its subordinate units conducted simultaneous coastal clean-up activities across La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur on 15 May 2026.

The activity was conducted as part of the pre-anniversary activities led by the Commander of MEP Group NWLZN, LTJG MONA RIZZA C VILLACILLO PCG. The initiative aimed to promote environmental stewardship and reduce the impact of plastic waste on the marine ecosystem.

The conduct of the clean-up activity underscores the Coast Guard’s steadfast commitment to marine environmental protection and strengthened community partnership and continue to take proactive steps in preserving and protecting marine resources for future generations.

π‹πŽπŽπŠ: On this day, 10 March 2026, the CGDNWLZN through MEP-ERG NWLZN, successfully conducted a three-day Oil Spill Awareness and Emergency Response Training for 35 personnel of the Coast Guard District Northwestern Luzon (CGDNWLZN).

The activity aimed to strengthen the participants’ capabilities in preventing, containing, and cleaning up marine pollution to safeguard the marine environment, local livelihoods, and public health. The training also ensures that responders are prepared to execute quick, coordinated, and effective actions during oil spill incidents.

Throughout the three-day session, participants were trained on essential principles and procedures, including incident assessment, containment strategies, recovery operations, waste management, and shoreline cleanup techniques. The program combined lectures and hands-on activities to reinforce practical skills necessary for real-world emergency response.

The conduct of this training underscores the Coast Guard’s commitment to enhancing operational readiness and promoting marine environmental protection across the region.
