Our initial goal of helping one family residing in Barangay Abucayan who lost their roof because of Typhoon Ulysses became an endeavor of supporting the community’s efforts to rebuild their homes.
We came up with Tabang Abucayan on 18 November to help a small community in which more than 400 households were directly affected by the recent typhoons.
We received overwhelming support from family, friends and colleagues that we were able to exceed our fundraising goal:
➡️ Local accounts (47 donors) - Php145,586.95
➡️ Gogetfunding (10 donors) - Php33,186
➡️ Pagasa funding
- Relief drive wave 1 - Php60,000
- Relief drive wave 2 - Php26,000
- Scout Fuentebella relief drive - Php60,000
Relief efforts
✅ 30 November (trapal for immediate shelter for 200 households) - Php101,740
✅ 6 December (relief goods for 250 families) - Php62,047
✅ 20 December (relief goods for 235 families) - Php58,893
✅ 24 December (maternity kits for 20 pregnant and new mothers) - Php7,580
✅ 27 December (kiddie Christmas kits for 302 students of Abucayan Elementary School) - Php17,803.40
✅ 30 December (housing kits for 10 families) - Php76,709.95
Words are not enough to express our sincerest gratitude to everyone who contributed to and participated in this pursuit. It is truly through working together that we can make a difference.
The calamities brought about by the recent typhoons are just symptoms of a deeper problem. In recent years, these have been made worse by the climate crisis the impacts of which, experts say, will be shouldered by poorer countries more than the rich ones, and by poorer populations more than the rich ones.
While we will continue to help people who will be adversely affected by the climate crisis, it is also important that we become voices of the poor in calling for drastic measures to curb global warming. Let us build and be part of a sustainable society for our children and future generations.
Tabang Abucayan may be a short-term project, but we hope that through this initiative we have touched lives, not only in Abucayan, but also those of people we have reached in one way or another throughout this campaign.
Again, marami pong salamat. Dios mabalos!
