PNP FOILS INSURGENT PLOT, SEIZES EXPLOSIVES IN AGUSAN DEL SUR

Sustained police pressure against insurgent remnants in Mindanao resulted in the recovery of hidden explosives and ammunition in the hinterlands of Brgy. Sta. Cruz, Rosario, Agusan del Sur from February 14 to February 17, 2026 . Under the command of PNP Chief, Police General (PGEN) Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., the Philippine National Police carried out a joint counterinsurgency action that successfully uncovered an arms cache believed to be abandoned by Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members.

Elements of the 1st Special Action Battalion (1SAB), Force Support Battalion (FSB), and Force Intelligence Investigation Division (FIID) provided tactical support to the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Office, and other operating units during the mission. Recovered from the site were two hand grenades, one improvised explosive device (IED), 30 meters of detonating wire (MOL), and five magazines for caliber 7.62mm fi****ms. The explosives and related materials were secured and placed under the custody of the Provincial EOD and Canine Unit (PECU) of Agusan del Sur PPO for proper documentation and lawful disposition.

Authorities said the recovery prevented the possible use of the explosives in hostile activities targeting security forces and civilian communities. The operation also underscored the continuing effort of the PNP to track down concealed weapons and disrupt armed networks operating in remote areas of the province.

โ€œThis recovery is a clear message that we will relentlessly pursue armed groups that threaten peace and security. We are determined to remove every instrument of violence from their hands,โ€ PNP Chief PGEN Nartatez stated. โ€

He further stressed the importance of sustained field presence and intelligence-driven actions. โ€œEach successful operation strengthens public confidence and weakens the capability of those who seek to destabilize our communities. The PNP remains committed to decisive and lawful action,โ€ he said. โ€

The accomplishment reflects the PNP Focused Agendaโ€”an institutional roadmap of transformation designed to make police service more responsive and mission-focused. Central to this effort is Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which drives intelligence-based deployments and targeted interventions to suppress armed threats and maintain stability in affected areas.

The PNP maintains heightened security operations across insurgency-affected communities to ensure that explosives and fi****ms do not fall into the wrong hands. As the PNP sustains firm actions to dismantle insurgent capabilities and secure communities under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it continues to assure the public of โ€œBagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman.โ€

OVER 15K FI****MS OFF THE STREETS: PNP PUSHES STRONGER SAFETY MEASURES

The nationwide campaign against loose fi****ms continues to strengthen public safety, removing thousands of unlicensed weapons and holding violators accountable under the law.

Data covering January 1 to February 19, 2026 show that authorities arrested 1,474 individuals for illegal firearm possession. During the same period, 4,684 fi****ms were captured, surrendered, or confiscated due to violations of RA 10591, while 479 fi****ms were turned in for safekeeping โ€” reflecting growing community cooperation in reducing firearm-related risks.

Broader results from August 26, 2025 to February 19, 2026 highlight sustained enforcement efforts: 5,547 persons were arrested, and 15,428 fi****ms were seized or surrendered in violation of the law. Additionally, 1,474 fi****ms were voluntarily turned over for safekeeping, demonstrating public willingness to support preventive measures.

Recent weekly operations from February 13 to 19, 2026 maintained this momentum, resulting in 250 arrests and the confiscation or surrender of 718 fi****ms, alongside 85 fi****ms turned in for safekeeping.

Chief PNP, PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., emphasized that the campaign prioritizes prevention and community safety.

"Hindi lang ito tungkol sa pagpapatupad ng batas. Ang layunin natin ay pigilan ang mga posibleng krimen at protektahan ang buhay. Bawat baril na wala sa ilegal na sirkulasyon ay isang panganib na naiiwasan. Hinihikayat namin ang publiko na makiisaโ€”kung may hindi lisensyado o hindi na ginagamit na baril, isuko ito para sa kaligtasan ng lahat," PGEN Nartatez said.

The campaign aligns with the PNPโ€™s Focused Agenda through Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), combining intelligence-led enforcement, strategic checkpoints, and community engagement. It emphasizes both accountability and prevention, encouraging voluntary surrender of fi****ms to reduce risks before crimes occur.

These efforts support the governmentโ€™s broader public safety priorities under the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, who has consistently emphasized the importance of law and order as foundations for national progress and community well-being.

Building on the national drive, Police Regional Office 5 (PRO 5) intensified its local operations over the past week. From February 16 to 22, 2026, PRO 5 conducted 22 targeted โ€œkontra bogaโ€ operations, resulting in 8 arrests of individuals suspected of illegal firearm possession or trafficking. Authorities confiscated or received 26 assorted fi****ms, while 8 more were voluntarily turned in for safekeeping.

The top cop further reminded the public of their role in the campaign:
"Safety is a shared responsibility. Report suspicious activities, secure fi****ms at home, and participate in voluntary surrender programs. Together, we can reduce risks and protect lives."

This nationwide achievement reflects the PNPโ€™s commitment to proactive, community-centered policing. Through coordinated operations, intelligence gathering, and public awareness, the PNP continues to advance the vision of Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman, ensuring every Filipino feels the presence of law enforcement that is both effective and responsive.

13K-STRONG POLICE FORCE TO SECURE 40TH EDSA ANNIVERSARY

The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., has mobilized 13,448 personnel nationwide as part of comprehensive security preparations for the โ€œTrillion Peso Marchโ€ rally on February 25, 2026, in line with the 40th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

As of 5:00 PM, February 21, 2026, all units of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) are under Full Alert Status, ensuring heightened readiness and seamless coordination before, during, and after the event.

The Quezon City Local Government Unit approved the conduct of the rally along White Plains Avenue, Quezon City, organized by Tindig Pilipinas, SIKLAB, and the Trillion Peso March Movement. Organizers are set to install their stage at midnight of February 24, with program activities scheduled from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM on February 25, 2026. No other rally permits have been granted for that date and location.

To secure the activity, the PNP has implemented a multi-layered deployment strategy. A total of 3,657 Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) personnel have been deployed on the ground, supported by 3,613 augmentation forces and 1,197 standby CDM contingents ready for immediate reinforcement if necessary.

Anti-criminality efforts are reinforced by 862 dedicated teams, while 386 law enforcement checkpoints and 322 border control points have been established to deter the entry of prohibited items and prevent criminal elements from taking advantage of the gathering.

For rapid response and public safety, the PNP has positioned 501 Quick Reaction Teams, including SWAT and EOD/K9 units, alongside 337 traffic and route security teams to manage vehicular flow and ensure safe access routes. Covert security personnel numbering 381 are also strategically deployed to monitor potential threats discreetly.

Complementing these are 332 mobile patrol units, 186 beat patrol officers, and 246 strong points placed in key areas to maintain visibility and deter unlawful activities. Public safety is further supported by 142 medical teams on standby, as well as drone operators, negotiating teams, arresting officers, legal support units, and administrative personnel to ensure smooth operational control.

PNP Chief, Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., underscored that the extensive deployment is preventive in nature and anchored on professionalism.

We respect the peopleโ€™s right to assemble. Kasabay nito, tungkulin naming tiyakin na walang masasaktan at walang manggugulo,โ€ PGEN Nartatez said.

He assured the public that police presence will remain disciplined and non-partisan.
โ€œOur police officers are under clear instructions: maximum tolerance, strict discipline, and full respect for human rights. โ€

Chief PNP, PGEN Nartatez also reminded participants to observe safety protocols and cooperate with authorities.

If you see something suspicious, report it immediately. Seguridad ng lahat ang nakasalalay dito.โ€

The security preparations are aligned with the PNPโ€™s Focused Agenda through Enhanced Managing Police Operations, ensuring centralized command, efficient resource management, and real-time coordination at the national level.

As the nation commemorates this historic milestone, the PNP reaffirmed its commitment to safeguard democratic expression while maintaining public orderโ€”advancing Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman, in service of every Filipino.
