KIAMBA, SARANGANI โ August 31, 2026. In celebration of National Heroes Day, the Municipality of Kiamba through the Municipal Health Office -Nutrition Unit brought the spirit of kabayanihan closer to the community through โKalinga sa Bayan,โ a joint community-based nutrition and bayanihan activity held today in Kiamba, Sarangani Province.
The activity was spearheaded through the Municipal Health OfficeโNutrition Unit, headed by Municipal Health Officer Dr. Maychel G. Panes, with the support of Municipal Mayor Hon. George F. Falgui, in partnership with various community stakeholders and volunteers.
The activity formed part of the BeAHero nationwide simultaneous initiative of Gawad Kalinga, highlighting the role of volunteerism, compassion, and community action in building a healthier and more resilient nation.
Among the major activities was a one-shot feeding activity for children aged 6โ23 months and other preschool children, providing nutritious food while promoting proper infant and young child feeding practices among families.
In response to the needs of households affected by the recent earthquake, iron-fortified rice was also distributed to affected families, supporting food security and improved nutrition during times of adversity.
The initiative likewise included the distribution of hygiene kits to the enrolled ECCD children at Datu Dani Day Care Center, reinforcing the importance of proper hygiene and healthy practices among young children.
Parents, caregivers, and community members also participated in Nutri-Lectures, where practical information on nutrition, health, and family well-being was shared as part of the communityโs continuing efforts to prevent malnutrition and strengthen nutrition awareness.
Adding a special touch to the celebration was the participation of MCGI Youth, who served as volunteer partners and helped facilitate the provision of Libreng Gupit for community members. Their presence demonstrated how young people can actively contribute to community development through volunteerism and service.
The Community Development Workers (CDWs) also took part in the activity, helping strengthen community participation and engagement.
Joining them were the municipalityโs dedicated Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), aptly recognized as โBayani Hanggang Wakas,โ whose continuing service brings health care and support closer to families at the barangay level.
The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), or โBayani sa Nutrisyon at Serbisyo,โ likewise played an important role in the implementation of the nutrition-focused activities, particularly in reaching children, parents, and caregivers and promoting better nutrition practices within the community.
The successful conduct of Kalinga sa Bayan was made possible through the cooperation and support of Barangay Datu Dani and its Barangay Council, headed by Punong Barangay Kamasa S. Beto, whose commitment and hospitality helped provide a meaningful venue for the community-based initiative.
The activity served as a living example of bayanihan, where different sectors come together, each contributing their time, skills, and resources for the welfare of the community.
Beyond these interventions, the activity fostered community engagement and bayanihan, bringing together partners, families, children, and community volunteers in a shared effort to care for one another.
More than simply commemorating the heroes of the past, National Heroes Day served as a reminder that heroism can also be found in everyday acts of service, in feeding a child, helping a family affected by disaster, teaching a parent, protecting a community, and extending a helping hand to those in need.
As Kiamba joined the nation in honoring its heroes, Kalinga sa Bayan reminded everyone that heroism continues beyond history books. It lives in the hands of volunteers who serve, health workers who care, nutrition workers who nurture, community workers who empower, and young people who choose to give their time for others.
Sa Araw ng mga Bayani, Kiamba celebrates not only the heroes of yesterday, but also the everyday heroes who continue to serve todayโpara sa bata, para sa pamilya, at para sa bayan.
