Earth Day

April 22 is the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. This activity aims to raise awareness for the protection and preservation of our environment for present amd future generations.

Thus, encourages individuals to take part and be part of the solution and not a problem such as growing of trees, picking up litters, and managing our waste properly.

We can be heroes on our own way. We can help combat the impact of climate change and be the change that we wish for. Take your part and ACT NOW because there is NO PLANET B!

HAPPY EARTH DAY MALUNGONIANS!

International Day of Forests Celebration

The Local Government Unit of Malungon thru Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office in partnership with McAuce Hill, Banahaw, Malungon, Sarangani Province (owned by Mr. Augustus Casiple and Mrs. Arlene Casiple) joined the celebration of International Day of Forests 2022 on March 25, 2022 at McAuce Hill Banahaw, Malungon, Sarangani Province.

This activity encourages people to plant trees and participate in tree growing activities. In addition, it aims to recognise the values and importance of trees and forests for all life forms and the many benefits they bring, including helping maintain water quality; mitigating climate change; sequestering carbon, so less greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere; providing habitats for wildlife and flora.

This day is a celebration of the value of trees to life on earth. It was established to celebrate the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) which was signed in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

I can, You can, and We can help protect and preserve our nature in our own little ways. Always be the change that you wish to see in the world.

The Local Government Unit of Malungon headed by Honorable Mayor Tessa Kyut Constantino joins the celebration of Tree Hugging Campaign on Heart's Day.🌲🌳🪴🌏

Quick Facts👌

This movement originated in 197s in Northern India. It is a passionate action towards the protection and conservation of trees.

According to research, hugging a tree increases levels of hormone oxytocin. This hormone is responsible for feeling calm and emotional bonding. When hugging a tree, the hormones serotonin and dopamine make you feel happier. It is important to use this “free” space of a forest we were given by nature to holistically heal ourselves.

Dr. Stone recommends that we stay in a hug for a minimum of 21 seconds.

Find time to hug a tree and enjoy its benefits as you show your love to Mother Earth.🌏

Have fun and take care.♥️♥️♥️

“Take care of the trees and they will take care of you.” This powerful quote reminds us that human existence includes an interaction with nature.

Trees are very important not only they provide oxygen which is a basic requirement for life but also slow down climate change and making the environment clean and healthy. In fact, older trees absorb more carbon dioxide than younger ones around 48 pounds a year which makes them better at mitigating climate change`s harmful effects and maintaining balance in the ecosystem. Dailan Pugh (2014) described that old trees are the special storehouses of carbon, supply essential hollows for animals to nest and den in, provide the most abundant nectar and seed, and are of the most artistic appeal.

Malungon supports afforestation and discourages deforestation. Let us all protect the remaing historically valuable old trees in the municipality and preserve them for much higher calling of climate change mitigation and for the future generation. When we value and protect old trees, we treasure our heritage and our ancestor’s act of heroism.
