Alam n'yo ba na nalubog ang Sariaya dahil sa pagputok ng Bundok Banahaw noong 1743?

Ang taong 1743 ang itinuturing na pinakamadilim na bahagi ng kasaysayan ng Sariaya dahil sa sunud-sunod na trahedyang tumama dito. Kasama sa mga trahedya ay ang lindol na sumira sa tore ng simbahan sa Lumangbayan (Tumbaga), mga epidemya tulad ng cholera at bulutong, at ang walang awang panununog ng mga piratang Moro sa simbahan at mga bahay sa Lumangbayan (Tumbaga). Dahil dito, napilitan ang mga residente na ilipat ang Poblacion sa kasalukuyang lokasyon, at naging sanhi rin ng pagputok ng Bundok Banahaw na nagdulot ng paglubog ng Sariaya.

Makikita sa larawan ang Satellite Image ng Bundok Banahaw. Sa ngayon, tatlong beses pa lamang pumutok ang Banahaw: noong 1730, 1743, at 1843.

Ayon sa Estado Geographica ni Fr. Huerta, nang pumutok ang bundok noong 1730, nagkaroon ng malaking lawa sa bunganga nito. Noong muling pumutok ito noong 1743, tuluyang nasira ang lawa at bumulwak pababa sa paanan nito, na nagdulot ng paglubog ng Sariaya. Ayon sa mga kwentong bayan, nang masaksihan ng mga Kastila ang pagbuhos ng napakaraming tubig mula sa bunganga nito, tinawag nila ang Banahaw na "Vulcan de Agua."

Sa pagputok at pagbuhos ng lawa mula sa bunganga, nabuo ang Lagnas River. Ito ang ilog na matatagpuan sa 'Mahabang Tulay' sa Barangay Sampaloc. Ang Lagnas River ay nabuo dahil sa pagputok ng bundok at ito ang pinakamahabang ilog sa bayan na umaagos patungong dagat.

According to historical records, the town of Sariaya was first established on the shores of Barangay Castañas 418 years ago. When the Franciscan priests arrived in this small community on October 4, 1599, almost all the people here were fishermen. With the help of the inhabitants, they built the first church in the area. The life of the early Sariayahins in Castañas was not easy because they were frequently attacked by Moro pirates, causing the church to relocate several times until it settled in its current location in Poblacion, near the foot of Mount Banahaw.The name of the barangay is derived from the Spanish word 'Castaña,' which means Chestnut in English, a type of fruit. The Philippines has its own version of chestnut, the Philippine Chestnut (Castanopsis philippinensis), locally called Kastanyas. Like some barangays in Sariaya named after plants and fruits that are widespread or abundant in the area. ゚

Ang Calle Daliz
Ay isa sa pinakamahalagang kalye na parte ng pamumuhay ng mga Sariayahin. Araw araw ay napaka aktibo ng lugar na ito dahil isa ito sa mga pangunahing daan patungo sa main highway kung saan located ang sentro o tinatawag na pinaka bayan. Isa ito sa pinakamahabang kalsada ng Sariaya, mula sa kanto nito sa kalye mabini hanggang sa Marichi Subdivision. Sa kalye din na ito matatagpuan ang ilan sa mga antigo at makasaysayang mansion ng mga Rodriguez-ang Gov Maximo Rodriguez mansion sa kanto ng Kalye Daliz at Kalye Rizal, ang tatlong mansion ng magkakapatid na Doña Margarita, Don Lucio at Don Catalino.
Makikita din ang Sunken Park at sa dulo ay nakatayo ang munisipyo at katabi nito ang Emralino Rodriguez mansion sa kalye mabini.�Ang pangalang Kalle Daliz ay hango sa pangalan ng isang magiting na Sariayahin na kilalang lumalaban sa mga tulisan noong araw- Si G. Marcelino de San Andres na binansagang Kap Daliz.

Brgy Bucal is one of the cleanest and most peaceful barangays in Sariaya. It's surrounded by beautiful rice fields and greeneries. The name "Bucal" comes from the natural springs in the area, believed to come from Mount Banahaw.If you want to visit Brgy Bucal, start from the Municipal Hall, take Mabini Street in Brgy Poblacion 6, go straight past the Bypass Road and Brgy Tumbaga 1. You'll see a sign at the junction of Brgy Limbon and Brgy Bucal. Keep going straight from Bucal, and you'll reach Brgy Talaan. We'll talk more about Brgy Talaan in future posts on our page "Where in Sariaya."
