In celebration of International Coastal Cleanup 2026, the Local Government Unit of Magallanes successfully led a massive, simultaneous coastal cleanup drive across the municipality!

This green initiative wouldn't have been possible without the powerful synergy of our local heroes and youth leaders. A huge salute to our dedicated partners who got their hands dirty for our environment:

Successful intensive Information and Education Campaign on Solid Waste Management in 2 elementary schools and 2 high schools in Poblacion.

This vital initiative was made possible through the full support of our Honorable Municipal Mayor, Maria Elena Ramona M. Ragragio.

Thanks to the dedicated school principals and teachers who warmly welcomed our team, facilitated the sessions, and inspired their students to actively participate. Together, we are teaching our youth the value of proper waste segregation, reducing plastic pollution, and preserving both our land and marine ecosystems.

Matagumpay na isinagawa ang 3rd Quarter Municipal Solid Waste Management Board Meeting ng LGU Magallanes sa pamumuno ng ating katuwang sa pag-unlad, Municipal Mayor Maria Elena Ramona M. Ragragio!

Pinangunahan ni OIC MENRO Eden L. Ariate ang produktibong pagpupulong kung saan tinalakay ang mga estratehikong plano para sa pagsasaayos ng ating Alternative Disposal Facility. Binigyang-diin din ang paglulunsad ng malawakang Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign sa mga paaralan upang itanim sa kaisipan ng kabataan ang tamang pamamahala ng basura.

Ang naging highlight ng aktibidad ay ang pagkilala at pagbibigay-parangal sa Barangay Ecological Solid Waste Management Committee (BESWMC) ng Brgy. Cawit Proper sa pamumuno ni Punong Barangay Richard A. Honrubia. Ang parangal na ito ay patunay ng kanilang walang-sawang pagsuporta sa Municipal Ordinance No. 07 – 2003—ang mas pinaigting na buwanang kampanya sa paglilinis ng 34 na barangay sa Magallanes, Sorsogon upang sugpuin ang banta ng dengue at iba pang sakit na dala ng lamok.

Municipal Ordinance No. 05-2009 Compliance Monitoring

The Local Government Unit of Magallanes, under the leadership of Municipal Mayor Hon. Maria Elena Ramona M. Ragragio, remains steadfast in its commitment to environmental sustainability.

Earlier today, July 3, 2026, a joint compliance monitoring operation was conducted at the Magallanes Fiesta Market to ensure strict adherence to Municipal Ordinance No. 05-2009. This ordinance strictly prohibits the use of plastic wrappers, plastic bags, and Styrofoam across all retail, grocery, and commercial establishments within our municipality.

The inspection was spearheaded by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), led by OIC-MENRO Eden L. Ariate, in close collaboration with the Public Market Administrator’s Office, headed by Assistant Municipal Treasurer and Public Market Administrator Jesus G. Furing.

We would also like to extend our structural gratitude to Mr. Albert Topacio of the Public Market Administrator's Office, alongside the dedicated MENRO staff, for their hands-on enforcement and monitoring on the ground.

We commend our local market vendors who continue to cooperate and embrace eco-friendly alternatives like paper bags, ecobags, and traditional baskets.
