Healthcare came closer to home for 160 residents of Barangay Halilan on August 28, 2026, as the YAKAP Caravan brought essential health services directly to the community, making medical care, laboratory services, PhilHealth assistance, and medicines more accessible to those who needed them.

Residents availed themselves of vital signs checking, PhilHealth membership verification and enrollment, laboratory services, medical consultation, and free medicine dispensing, giving community members the opportunity to address their health concerns through a range of services provided in one community-based activity.

Through the continued rollout of the YAKAP Caravan, the Municipal Health Office brings healthcare beyond the walls of the Rural Health Unit and closer to the communities it serves, strengthening efforts to make essential health services more accessible, responsive, and people-centered.

Amid the increasing number of dengue cases in Barangay Lake Lahit, the Municipal Health Office, through its Environmental and Occupational Health Sevices Unit, in partnership with Barangay Lake Lahit, conducted the Labadaba Festival on August 27, 2026.

The activity was spearheaded by Enya Logong, RM, Sanitary Inspector, mobilizing residents and Barangay Health Workers to wash curtains, mosquito nets, beddings, and other household fabrics that may serve as resting or hiding places for mosquitoes as part of intensified dengue prevention efforts.

The activity encouraged households to regularly wash and properly clean fabrics commonly found inside homes, helping reduce areas where mosquitoes may stay and potentially come into contact with people. Health workers and barangay officials also emphasized the importance of maintaining clean surroundings and practicing other preventive measures to minimize the risk of dengue transmission.

More than a simple community clean-up, the Labadaba Festival highlighted the role of every household in dengue prevention. Through collective action and consistent cleanliness practices, Barangay Lake Lahit continues to strengthen its fight against dengue and protect the health of its community.

Lake Sebu Rural Health Unit earned dual Certificates of Recognition from the Department of Healthโ€“Center for Health Development SOCCSKSARGEN for its outstanding performance in Measles-Rubella (MR) Surveillance and Field Health Services Information System (FHSIS) reporting, as well as for maintaining a Functional Municipal Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (MESU) for Calendar Year 2025, during the 2026 Epidemiology and Surveillance and Health Statistics Program Implementation Review held on August 27, 2026, at The Farm at Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City.

The recognition for FHSIS functionality highlights the RHUโ€™s 100% timely and complete submission of all required reports for CY 2025, while its MR Surveillance award reflects its consistent implementation of disease detection, reporting, investigation, and laboratory-supported surveillance. These systems play a vital role in the early identification of measles and rubella cases and in strengthening local disease prevention and control efforts.

The double recognition underscores the commitment of the Lake Sebu RHU health personnel, community partners, and local leaders to maintaining reliable health information and responsive disease surveillance. Through sustained and accurate reporting, the team continues to strengthen evidence-based public health action and protect the health of communities across Lake Sebu.

A total of 98 residents, equivalent to 3.2% of Barangay Talisayโ€™s total population, took part in the Mobile Blood Donation Activity on August 20, 2026, turning community participation into a life-saving contribution toward strengthening the municipalityโ€™s blood supply for patients in need of transfusion.

Led by Blood Program Coordinator Jenny A. Pingki-an, RMT, in collaboration with the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital Blood Bank under the supervision of Roland Abu, RMT, the activity followed established donor safety procedures, with volunteers undergoing health assessment, hemoglobin testing, and donor screening before blood extraction to ensure the safety of both donors and collected blood units.

Beyond the numbers, the activity reflected the communityโ€™s shared responsibility in maintaining an adequate blood supply for emergencies, surgeries, and other medical conditions requiring transfusion. Through their voluntary donation, the residents of Barangay Talisay gave more than bloodโ€”they gave patients another chance at life.

On behalf of the Local Government Unit of Lake Sebu, Municipal Mayor Hon. Antonio G. Fungan Jr. officially received a check from Mahintana Foundation, Inc. representing the LGUโ€™s 70% Net Income Share under the Health Plus Project implemented at the Rural Health Unit (RHU) Lake Sebu.

Ms. Liza D. Hora, Executive Director of Mahintana Foundation, Inc., formally turned over the check amounting to โ‚ฑ145,222.88, corresponding to the LGUโ€™s income share for CY 2023โ€“2025. During the turnover, Ms. Hora highlighted the various partnerships between Mahintana Foundation, Inc. and the Municipality of Lake Sebu, particularly those aimed at advancing health and nutrition in the municipality.

The Health Plus Project supports the operation of a Health Plus Shop-in-a-Shop (HPSiS) at the RHU Lake Sebu Pharmacy, which serves as a service delivery support and stop-gap mechanism to help ensure the continuous availability of essential drugs and medicines at the health facility.

Since the implementation of the project, the HPSiS has complemented the regular supply of medicines at RHU Lake Sebu, helping prevent stockouts and ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of basic health services to the community. Through this mechanism, essential medicines remain available to support the healthcare needs of Lake Sebuans, particularly when regular supplies are temporarily insufficient or awaiting replenishment.

The formal turnover was witnessed by members of the Sangguniang Bayan, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Arenz Jade C. Docdocil, Municipal Treasurer Henry E. Magbanua, and municipal government employees present during the flag ceremony.

The turnover of the LGUโ€™s income share reflects not only the gains generated through the Health Plus Project but also the value of sustained partnerships in strengthening local health service delivery. The continued collaboration between the LGU of Lake Sebu and Mahintana Foundation, Inc. demonstrates how effective partnerships can help address gaps in the local health supply chain and ensure that essential medicines and services remain accessible to the people.

Welcoming a new chapter for Philippine health care.

The Department of Health and PhilHealth welcomes Dr. Edwin M. Mercado as the new Secretary of Health, and Dr. Beverly Lorraine C. Ho as PhilHealthโ€™s President and Chief Executive Officer.

As both agencies open another chapter, we extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Jose "Brix" Pujalte for his dedicated service. We wish him strength and a full recovery as he now focuses on regaining his health.

The Presidentโ€™s marching orders are clear: promote wellness, prevent disease, strengthen primary care, and champion zero-balance billing for facility-based careโ€”so that no Filipino family is forced to carry a burden it was never meant to bear.

Together, DOH and PhilHealth will build on the gains already made and move toward a future where every Filipino family receives the care they need, when they need it; where no one has to choose between getting well and getting by; and where our people can trust that the health system will be there when it matters most.

Mabilis. Patas. Mapagkakatiwalaan.
