HARVESTING PEACE

Almost a year after the Sinumaan Complex Liberation in Talipao, Sulu, our Tausug brothers and sisters are well into socio-economic rehabilitation and development.

To promote a conflict-resilient community, Project "Thread of Peace for Sinumaan" was launched last August 2022. The project intends to economically empower the conflict-affected communities in Upper Sinumaan, Talipao, Sulu.

Thread of Peace for Sinumaan is a collaboration between the Phillipine Korea International Cooperation Agency Fellows Association (PHILKOFA), through its VP for Mindanao, Ms Christine Yambao, the 6th Special Forces Company, 2nd Special Forces Battalion and the Philippine Fiber Development Authority RIX.

In the last quarter of 2022, more than Php200,000 worth of abaca was sold by the Upper Sinumaan Farmers Association. This feat was made possible through the abaca stripping machines donated by PHILKOFA and Bounty Fresh Agro Ventures/Chooks to Go.

The partnership forms part of the 6SFC, 2SFBn's efforts on the Development, Governance and Security (DGS) approach in conflict-affected areas.

The DGS framework is the pinnacle of the 1101st Infantry Brigade, Joint Task Force Sulu's thrust under the Development Support and Security Plan (DSSP) Kapayapaan of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The economic activity reduces the vulnerability of the locals to be dragged into conflict in exchange for food, money, and other subsistence.

The locals' increased financial capacity also allows the parents to send their kids to school - a venue where peace can be taught through education - and is a step towards genuine and lasting peace.

The Sinumaan Complex in Talipao has been a known ASG Bulwark for the last 20 years. Last March 2022, troops from the 6th Special Forces Company, 2SFBn, liberated Upper Sinumaan, marking the end of the ASG's terror. Development efforts soon followed through Operators from the 12CMO Bn, 15CMO Bn, along with Army Engineers from the 545th EBn.

THREE ASG MEMBERS RETURN TO THE FOLDS OF THE LAW

March 21, 2023 @ Brgy. Kagay, Talipao, Sulu.

Three ASG members namely, Edimar Salahuddin LAKIBUL BOY, 38 years old, 23 years as ASG member under Sub-Leader Idang SUSUKAN, and a resident of Brgy. Lumbayao, Talipao; Rizal KARI , 31 years old, seven years as ASG member under Sub-Leader Basaron AROK, and a resident of Brgy. Lower Sinumaan, Talipao; and Alhail ABDULLA /AL, 39 years old, five years as Basilan-based ASG member and one year as Sulu-based ASG carrier/ supporter, and now a resident of Brgy. Bagsak, Talipao, Sulu returned to the folds of the law facilitated by Maj Ron T Villarosa, Commanding Officer of 6th Special Forces Company, 2SFBn.

The three former ASG members were presented by Ltc Benito G Ramos Jr PA, CO, 2SFBn to MGen Ignatius N Patrimonio PA, Commander, Joint Task Force Sulu; Hji. Abejar-i T. Sahimarri, Municipal Administrator, Talipao, Sulu; and to Commander, 1101st Infantry Gagandilan Brigade. Said former ASG members brought along with them their respective fi****ms such as, one M1 Carbine Cal. 30, one Ingram Cal. 9mm, and one Cal. 45 pistol. They were given initial relief assistance by the Talipao MTF-ELAC which will be the one to jumpstart their rehabilitation and reintegration program to the mainstream society. Their decision to surface is a wise decision for them to live a normal life, be productive community members, and contribute to the peace and security as well as development of the Province of Sulu.
