IN PHOTOS | ANTI- DRUGS SYMPOSIUM AND YOUTH CRIMINALITY, HIV, TEENAGE PREGNANCY AND MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS SUCCESFULLY CONDUCTED IN CELEBRATION OF LINGGO NAN KABATAAN 2026

The Linggo Nan Kabataan (LNK) 2026 was successfully conducted by the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Dapa Chapter, spearheaded by Hon. Kathrina A. Luego, SK Federated President, in collaboration with the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) and in partnership with the Rural Health Unit (RHU), headed by Dr. Noemi Peavy Lagurra, Municipal Health Officer, and the Dapa Municipal Police Station (Dapa MPS), headed by PCPT Byrne Mentero, ACOP.

Dr. Noemi Peavy Lagurra discussed important issues concerning Teenage Pregnancy, HIV Awareness, and Mental Health, providing valuable information and guidance to the youth.

Meanwhile, PCPT Byrne Mentero, ACOP tackled two crucial topics: Drug Awareness and Youth Criminality, emphasizing the importance of making responsible choices, staying away from illegal drugs, and understanding the consequences of involvement in criminal activities.

The activity was attended by student leaders from SNSHS, SNSDI, DNHS, and SIIT-SHS, as well as Out-of-School Youth (OSY) and members of the Local Youth Development Council (LYDC).

This initiative reflects our shared commitment to empowering, educating, and protecting the youth of Dapa toward a safer, healthier, and more responsible community.

LOOK | LYDO's INTERVIEW IN PREPARATION FOR THE UPCOMING SIARGAO YOUTH CLIMATE CHANGE CONGRESS.

The following are the proposed project proposals of the two schools, Siargao National Science High School (SNSHS) and Siargao Island Institute of Technology (SIIT), which will represent the Municipality of Dapa in the upcoming Siargao Climate Youth Congress, in celebration of SIPLAS Week, to be held on October 6–7, 2026, in Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte.

SNSHS – Early Warning Device

SNSHS is proposing an Early Warning Device designed to help monitor and detect unusually high water levels and strong water currents, particularly in barangays and areas where embankments are present and vulnerable to flooding or water-related hazards. The proposed device aims to provide timely warnings to residents and local authorities, allowing them to take appropriate precautionary measures and respond immediately during potentially hazardous conditions.

The project promotes the use of innovative, community-based technology as a climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction mechanism, particularly for vulnerable communities located near waterways and embankments.

SIIT – Waste Into Cash

Meanwhile, Siargao Island Institute of Technology (SIIT) is developing a system called “Waste Into Cash,” an innovative digital-based solution that aims to encourage proper waste segregation, collection, recycling, and the conversion of recyclable materials into economic opportunities.

The project seeks to promote the concept that waste can be transformed into a valuable resource by connecting waste management practices with livelihood and incentive mechanisms. It also aims to encourage young people and communities to actively participate in environmental protection while promoting a circular economy, sustainable waste management, and climate-resilient communities.

Both proposed projects demonstrate the creativity and innovation of the youth of Dapa in addressing pressing environmental and climate-related challenges through technology, community participation, and sustainable solutions. These initiatives also support the objectives of the SIPLAS Week and contribute to the development of practical, youth-led solutions for a more resilient and sustainable Siargao Island.
