CTGs in Surigao del Sur on the Brink of Collapse, More Fi****ms Recovered by Government Troops
PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur – In a significant boost to ongoing peace and security efforts, troops from the 36th Infantry “Valor” Battalion (36IB), led by Lieutenant Colonel Joselito B. Ante Jr., and operating under the 401st Infantry “Unite N’ Fight” Brigade commanded by Colonel Glenn Joy U. Aynera, successfully recovered multiple fi****ms and war materials at vicinity Sitio Bato, Barangay Bitaugan, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur, on March 24, 2026.
The recoveries resulted from intensified security operations, and active community engagement. Former members and supporters of Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) provided valuable information that led to the discovery of these items.
Among the recovered items were three high-powered fi****ms—a Czech VZ rifle, a 5.56mm Bushmaster Carbine, and a 5.56mm Rock Island Carbine, discovered in an arms cache in the vicinity of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur. All recovered items are now under the custody of the 36IB for proper documentation, inventory, and appropriate disposition.
Colonel Glenn Joy U. Aynera, Commander of the 401st Infantry Brigade, commended the 36IB for their operational excellence and acknowledged the growing cooperation of local communities. “These recoveries demonstrate the effectiveness of our intensified security operations and highlight the vital role of community support in dismantling insurgency. The active participation of the populace is essential to ending armed conflict and securing lasting peace,” he said.
It can be recalled that the 36IB troops successfully neutralized two CTG members and recovered four high-powered fi****ms during a clash in the hinterlands of Barangay Nurcia, Lanuza, Surigao del Sur, on March 22, 2026.
Moreover, the 401st Infantry Brigade remains fully committed to protecting communities, promoting development, and encouraging remaining CTG members to lay down their arms, return to the fold of the law, and avail themselves of government reintegration programs, particularly the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
