FUN FACT!
Kinsay kaila ani? I'm sure mga taga Tabina kaila kaayo ani.
The local people know this as SALPO.
SALPO is just one of the hundred peanut worm species that thrive in the coasts of Tabina. To some, it may just seem like an icky seaworm, but this worm is a vital part in the sustainability of our ecosystem.
Despite its veriform appearance, the local people enjoy this as a delicacy served fresh with vinegar, lime, salt, and other local spices. Suprisingly, it doesn't have a strong fishy aftertaste compared to other seafoods. It has nutritional value and medicinal benefits too; and some even considered Salpo as an aphrodisiac.
Perhaps, one of these days, this can be introduced to the rest of the world as another ceviche (kinilaw) delicacy from Tabina.
We hope that the fisherfolks and the rest of the Tabinians will help in promoting a good culturing-and-collecting method for a sustainable development of this seaworm.
If Palawan is known for Tamilok, let Tabina be known for Salpo. Are you an adventurous foodie? Try our Salpo now!
