A Message of Gratitude

With deep emotion and sincere appreciation, our family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who stood with us during the passing of our beloved father, Hon. Sambitory B. Paunte — a devoted public servant, a man of integrity, and a father whose love for our community never wavered.

Konsehal Bitor lived a life anchored in honesty, hard work, and loyalty. As a senior citizen, he continued to dedicate himself to public service, not for recognition, but out of genuine concern for the Municipality of Taraka he cared for. He was true to his principles or to the trust of the people — and your overwhelming support during the election proved that his legacy was seen, felt, and remembered.

Even in his absence, you carried him to victory. And for that, we are forever grateful.

SALASALAMAT KO LANGOWAN A BANGSA MI. GINAWAI E KONSIYAL BITOR AGO SO LANGOWAN A LOLOT/TONGANAY A DA MAKANDARAINON KO KIYA-SUPPORTA AGO KIYABOTOWI RON. BALABALASAN RUKANO O ALLAH KO SUPPORT IYO.

Odin Sumagayan, Mayor Nashiba Sumagayan, and Vice Mayor Aquil Sumagayan for your guidance, support, and belief in the vision and values that the late Hon. Sambitory B. Paunte stood for.

Abdul Jabar T. Paunte now carry not only his name but the responsibility to continue what he started. With Allah’s guidance and your trust, he will strive to serve with the same humility, strength, and sincerity that defined his father’s life.

This victory belongs not only to our family but to every bangsa, lolot ago ginawai Konsehal Bitor.

Honoring the Legacy of True Leader

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return.

As our community approaches another pivotal election, we are reminded not only of the importance of our collective voice but also of the individuals who have long dedicated themselves to public service with integrity, humility, and an unwavering sense of duty.

Among these esteemed individuals stands Hon. Sambitory "Bitor" B. Paunte, a seasoned public servant and senior citizen who now seeks his third term as Municipal Councilor. At a time in life when many would rightfully turn to rest and retirement, he has chosen instead to continue walking the path of civic responsibility—a decision that speaks volumes about his character, his values, and his enduring love for the Municipality of Taraka.

Throughout his years in office, Konsehal Bitor has embodied the principles of effective and compassionate governance. His leadership has been marked by sound judgment, sincere advocacy for the people, and a commitment to the kind of progress that uplifts every member of society.

What distinguishes Konsehal Bitor is not only the breadth of his accomplishments but the depth of his service. His presence in the council has brought continuity, wisdom, and a perspective rooted in decades of lived experience. He is a leader who listens before he speaks, who acts with quiet determination, and who always places the needs of his constituents above personal ambition.

As we stand just nine days away from the election, it is fitting to pause and reflect on the legacy of a man who has given so much of himself for the greater good. And for sure, Konsehal Bitor has already secured a place in the history of our municipality as a dedicated public servant whose contributions will long be remembered.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude and highest respect to Konsehal Bitor—for his leadership, his example, and his continuing commitment to the well-being of our people. May his story serve as a beacon to future generations of leaders.

May Allah (SWT) accept his deeds, forgive his shortcomings, and grant him the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus. And may we, the people he served, carry forward his vision with unity, compassion, and steadfast commitment to the values he lived by.

To our esteemed members of the Peace and Order Committee headed by Vice Mayor Aquil Sumagayan, our local government officials, our religious and tribal leaders, men and women in uniform, community elders, and most importantly, the families involved in the settlement—our presence to this conflict settlement is not only to witness an important moment of reconciliation, but to celebrate a commitment to peace, unity, and healing. The settlement of this rido marks a turning point—not just for the families involved, but for the entire community of the Municipality of Taraka.

As your Sanggunian Bayan Member, I commend both parties for choosing dialogue over violence, understanding over revenge, and peace over pride. Your courage to forgive, and your willingness to face one another with respect and humility, is a powerful example to all.

The Peace and Order Council stands firm in its commitment to prevent further conflicts, to mediate with fairness, and to uphold justice rooted in both law and culture. But real peace is not just the absence of conflict—it is the presence of trust, cooperation, and shared responsibility.

Let us remember that peace is not the job of a few, but a shared duty of all. Every barangay, every family, every citizen plays a role in ensuring that what was settled today is not only honored but sustained.

To the families: may this settlement be the beginning of a new chapter—one filled with understanding, growth, and mutual respect.

To the leaders: continue to guide with wisdom.

To the community: let this be proof that peace is possible, when we choose it together.

Mabuhay ang ating pagkakaisa.

A reminder to fellow Tarakians

The right to vote and participate freely in elections is one of the most sacred pillars of a true democracy. It is through free, orderly, honest, peaceful, and credible elections that the voice of the people is heard, respected, and upheld.

To protect this sacred process, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) issued Resolution No. 11064, as amended, which provides guidelines for the use of online platforms and conduct of physical activities during the election period.

However, despite clear rules, we continue to see violations — deliberate or negligent — that undermine the spirit and letter of this resolution.

Resolution No. 11064 was not made to stifle participation, but rather to ensure fairness, safety, and equal opportunity for all candidates and voters.

The violations we have witnessed — excessive campaign spending online, smear campaigns through fake accounts, and dissemination of false information — are not minor offenses. They are serious attacks against our electoral integrity.

When individuals, groups, or candidates violate the rules set by COMELEC, they disrespect not only the law but the will of the people. They erode trust in the electoral process. They foster a culture of impunity where rules are seen as mere suggestions rather than binding mandates.

We must remember: Elections are not won only at the ballot boxes. They are won in the hearts and minds of the people — through honest dialogue, lawful conduct, and genuine leadership.

I call upon every citizen — voters, fellow candidates, and campaigners alike — to take responsibility. We must resist the temptation to cut corners. We must reject the idea that “winning at all costs” is acceptable.

Following COMELEC’s rules is not a burden — it is an honor. It shows respect for democracy, for fellow Tarakanian, and for the future generations who deserve to inherit a system that is clean, strong, and trustworthy.

And to those who continue to violate COMELEC Resolution No. 11064 despite knowing its importance: know that there are consequences. The law is clear, and the people are watching. Accountability must not be selective. It must be consistent and firm.

Let us remember: elections are a test — not of who can shout the loudest or spend the most, but of who can lead with honesty, courage, and respect for the law.

Let us not fail this test.

Together, let us uphold the dignity of our elections. Let us defend the sanctity of our vote. Let us choose the path of lawful, peaceful, and responsible participation.

Mabuhay ang malinis na halalan!

Fellow citizens, as election day draws near, we are reminded that leadership begins with responsibility—and one clear symbol of that is the peace covenant.

When candidates sign a peace covenant, they are not just signing a document; they are making a promise to uphold peace, fairness, and respect throughout the election process. This commitment ensures that campaigns remain free from violence, threats, and intimidation, and that the true voice of the people is heard without fear or manipulation.

Obeying the peace covenant shows that a candidate values not just winning—but winning with integrity. It reflects their respect for the rule of law, for democratic principles, and for the voters themselves. More importantly, it sets a good example for the community, especially for the youth who are watching how their leaders act.

Peaceful elections lead to stronger, more united communities. So to all candidates: let your leadership shine not just in your platforms, but in your conduct. Let’s prove that we can compete honorably and serve with dignity—for the people and for our nation.

🚫 SAY NO TO NEGATIVE CAMPAIGNING

As the election season heats up, some candidates or supporters may be tempted to engage in negative campaigning—criticizing others to gain electoral advantage.

While this may be seen by some as a political strategy, it’s important to note that there is a fine line between fair criticism and actions that may be unlawful.

💬 Remember: Freedom of speech is a right—but it is not absolute. It does not give anyone the license to spread lies, attack someone’s character, or incite harm.

Let’s work together to ensure a campaign that is clean, respectful, and grounded in facts. To all fellow candidates: focus on your strength, not on the weakness of your fellow candidates. Let’s lead with integrity.

We believe in campaigns that lift people up—not tear others down. Our focus remains on solutions, service, and what truly matters to our community. Let’s keep it positive.
