Malipayong ika-102 Araw ng Clarin!

Commemorating the month when Barrio Loculan of what was formerly the City of Misamis became the Municipality of Clarin, the place we fondly call home.

Repurposed some of the flowers I received last Valentine’s Day as a flower offering to the late former Senator Jose A. Clarin, whose efforts in the Philippine Legislature made it possible for our small town to be accorded the status of a municipality. 💜

Atangi ang mga kalihukan!

When not fulfilling my duties as incumbent Municipal Councilor or advising clients as an attorney-at-law, I also teach a number of law courses at a college of law. Among my students is the Chief of Police of Ozamiz City, PMaj Dennis Tano.

Got to share many a lighthearted moment with him today.

It’s Monday and I have my white dress on, ready for the week to come. 💪🏼

For the grind, I offer this quote from Martha Graham on owning our creativity and believing that we have a unique gift:

“There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and since there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique, and if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium; and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, not how it compares with other expression. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a q***r, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others.”

Thanks be to God, who has granted me the grace of completing the novena to celebrate the Feast of the Señor Santo Niño this year.

We just finished the Pontifical Mass celebrated by no less than Archbishop Martin S. Jumoad, where I led the Responsorial Psalm.

I am confident that 2023 will be another abundantly blessed year. Viva Pit Señor!

Amid the recent challenges our province has been facing, I treasure even more the glimmers of hope we have for a promising future.

Today, we will celebrate in a simple way the 14th anniversary of the establishment of our Suman House and Pasalubong Center. All this time it has been a favored rest stop for travelers making their way through Misamis Occidental, a trusted provider of delicious and filling merienda, a gateway to the offerings of our humble municipality, and an emblem of potential for what it could still accomplish.

Sharing a couple photos of me 11 and 4 years ago, enjoying what this landmark has to offer with family and friends.

Unta tanang relasyon sama sa atong suman, tam-is ug maayo ang pagkahilambigit. Kung dili man, at least naa ra ta’y makaon nga lami nga suman parisan ug init nga sikwate. 😂

Thank you for the boxes of water for our evacuees, JCI Cagayan de Oro! Many thanks as well to Ms. Kreena Poquita for connecting us. 😊

We were able to distribute to five affected barangays within Clarin.

Misamisnon para sa Misamisnon.

A snappy salute to generous Misamisnons who packed meals, treats, drinks, clothes, and hygiene products for the evacuees, as well as served them hot pares and lugaw. The spirit of Bayanihan abounds.

I was around when the evacuation center received the contributions of the families of Mayor Ben Canama, Hon. Erwin Japay, Ms. Elvie Tan, the proprietors of the New Central Restaurant, Ms. Queenie Jimenez and Marxiah Jimenez, Mr. Rizbel John Delos Santos, the medical volunteers from MHARS Medical Center, and my brother Mr. Paolo Mark Roa.

Thank you!

It’s another long day of unceasing rain.

The Sangguniang Bayan held a special session today. We passed, among others, a resolution authorizing the utilization of our Quick Response Fund for relief aid and assistance to our disaster-stricken communities. Hopefully it helps severely affected families bounce back.

With the number of evacuees rising, we prepared and distributed food, water, and clothing in our evacuation center in Clarin National High School. For those looking to donate, you may drop off goods at the Clarin Gymnasium.

Many, many thanks to everyone who has contributed their time, effort, and precious resources in this time of acute need. May the good Lord bless you tenfold.

The floods rage on. We urge everyone to stay vigilant and cooperative. Laban!
