The Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory - Region V, headed by Jomar M. Azada, DVM, Veterinarian II, together with Julie Ann Cabrera-Siares, Laboratory Analyst, and Felipe M. Requerque, Laboratory Assistant, conducted a visit to the Province of Catanduanes in response to the continuing threat of African Swine Fever (ASF).

As part of their visit, the team paid a Courtesy Call to the Hon. Patrick Alain T. Azanza, Governor of Catanduanes, and coordinated with the Provincial Veterinary Office to strengthen the provinceโ€™s disease surveillance and preparedness efforts.

The RADDL Region V brought a CPCR (Portable PCR) Equipment for use by the Provincial Veterinary Office in the rapid testing of blood samples, as well as Rapid Test Kits for ASF. The team also conducted an actual demonstration on the proper use and operation of the equipment, helping local personnel enhance their capability for early detection and immediate response.

Through strong collaboration among the national government, regional offices, and the provincial government, we continue to work together to ensure that ASF does not enter and spread in the Province of Catanduanes. ๐Ÿท๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

Prevention, early detection, and teamwork are our strongest defenses against ASF.

Radio Guesting | Radyo Pilipinas ๐Ÿ“ป

A meaningful radio guesting was held on August 13, 2026, at Radyo Pilipinas, hosted by Ms. Edna Bagadiong, featuring our Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Ramil I. Evangelista, and Agriculturist I, Mark Lorenz O. Alcantara.

The discussion focused on the African Swine Fever (ASF) situation, including its current status, signs and symptoms, and the necessary documents and requirements for the entry and movement of swine, pork products, and other pork-related products.

This information campaign is part of our continued efforts to raise awareness among livestock raisers, traders, consumers, and the general public on the importance of ASF prevention and biosecurity measures.

We also acknowledge the strong support of our Provincial Governor, Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza, in the implementation and strengthening of ASF biosecurity measures in the province. Through collaboration, responsible practices, and public awareness, we can help protect our swine industry and prevent the spread of ASF. ๐Ÿท๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

๐Ÿท

DA-RFO V, in partnership with BAI and FAO, strengthened the preparedness of the Bicol Region against animal diseases through the successful conduct of the Local Animal Disease Detection and Emergency Response (LADDER) Training held on July 20โ€“23, 2026 in Legazpi City, Albay.

The training aimed to enhance the capabilities of veterinarians, agricultural extension workers, and livestock program implementers in early disease detection, reporting, and responseโ€”under the Resilient Philippines Project of the Pandemic Fund.

Over four days, participants from various Bicol provinces engaged in lectures and hands-on training on risk analysis, disease surveillance, biosecurity measures, and proper sample collection and laboratory procedures. Experts also shared valuable field experiences on African Swine Fever (ASF) and avian influenza response.

This training was attended by our Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Ramil I. Evangelista, DVM, together with his staff Ms. Lorena M. Tolentino and John Paul Tomanlao.

We would like to thank our Provincial Governor Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza for the unwavering support to attend this training.
