Mercedes Intensifies Oplan Galugad To Strengthen Peace And Order

As part of its continuing campaign to ensure public safety, the Barangay Council of Mercedes, under the leadership of Chairman Romeo Fayluga, recently conducted Oplan Galugad in Zone 1, Azcuna Resettlement Site.

The operation was carried out by members of the Barangay Tanods together with personnel from the Culianan Police Station. Authorities went corner-to-corner and patrolled the area to monitor suspicious activities and remind residents on crime prevention and community safety.

According to Chairman Fayluga, peace and order remains a top priority of the barangay government. He said regular security operations like Oplan Galugad help deter crime and maintain a safe environment for residents.

The activity ended peacefully with no untoward incident reported.

Tanods who participated in the operation were: Rommel Perez, Rogelio Villanueva, Manuel Elavasantos, Ricardo Belderol, and Roldan Balagosa.

The barangay council said similar security activities will continue in other zones as part of its commitment to sustain peace and order in Mercedes.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), led by City Director Alvin Rex Lucero, conducted a whole-day seminar-workshop and team building for members of the Lupon ng Tagapamayapa of Barangay Mercedes under the leadership of Chairman Romeo Fayluga.

The activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of Lupon members in handling disputes at the barangay level and to strengthen teamwork among them.

Chairman Fayluga, together with the Barangay Council, welcomed and thanked DILG officials for the initiative, saying it greatly augmented the capacity of Lupon members in performing their duties.

During the session, it was emphasized that members of the Lupon ng Tagapamayapa, or the Barangay Peace Council, play a vital role in maintaining peace and order in the community.

Under the Katarungang Pambarangay Law, the Lupon serves as the first line of mediation and conciliation for disputes between neighbors. Their job includes:

Mediating conflicts such as boundary issues, debt, and minor offenses before these reach the courts.

Conducting hearings and amicable settlements to resolve cases fairly and promptly.

Promoting restorative justice by helping parties reach mutually acceptable agreements.

Reducing court dockets by settling disputes at the barangay level.

โ€œMembers of the Lupon play a very special role because they help bring peace among neighbors without bringing cases to court.โ€ โ€œThey are key to fostering harmony and saving time, money, and relationships in the community.โ€

The team-building portion also focused on improving coordination, communication, and public service delivery among Lupon members.

Chairman Fayluga said the barangay remains committed to supporting programs that strengthen the barangay justice system and empower community peacekeepers.

Govโ€™t Agencies Inspect Road Access in Barangay Mercedes

The Housing and Land Management Office (Hlmo), together with the Barangay Council of Mercedes and other government agencies, conducted a site inspection for road access at Reyna Homeowners Association in Zone 5, Barangay Mercedes on Thursday.

The inspection was led by HLMO Head Rodrigo Pagotaisidro and Barangay Chairman Romeo Fayluga. Also present were representatives from the City Administratorโ€™s Office, City Legal Office, City Planning Office, Office Of The Second Congressional District, Zamcelco, Mercedes Water System, and other concerned agencies.

The purpose of the inspection was to assess possible road widening to allow access for electric lines and water pipes. Residents of the area have long been experiencing problems due to narrow roads caused by lot owners who fenced their properties up to the road easement.

Mr. Pagotaisidro said road access is crucial, especially during emergencies and for the delivery of basic utilities.
โ€œClear road access is very important for public safety and for utilities to reach every home,โ€ Pagotaisidro said.

The team also met with concerned residents to discuss possible solutions.

In the afternoon, the same team proceeded to the Azcuna Resettlement Site following a request from the Police Regional Office 9, Camp Romeo Abendan, to utilize a portion of the area for a rainwater canal. An assessment was conducted for further evaluation and decision.

Barangay Chairman Fayluga said the barangay fully supports the initiatives of city agencies to improve infrastructure and address the needs of residents.

Mercedes Day Care Centers Hold Little King and Queen of Nutrition

Eight Day Care centers under the DSWD Field Office in Barangay Mercedes successfully held the "Little King and Queen of Nutrition" during the culmination of Nutrition Month on Tuesday at the Mercedes Covered Court.

The activity was conducted in close coordination with the Barangay Council of Mercedes headed by Chairman Romeo Fayluga, who expressed strong support for education and child development programs in the barangay.

Aside from the crowning ceremony, day care learners also joined a cooking competition that showcased nutritious and budget-friendly meals.

Kagawad Cary John Pioc inspired learners and parents in his message. He urged parents to continue providing nutritious food for their children.

โ€œEating the right kind of food will boost your health, help you grow faster, and make you do better in school,โ€ Pioc told the learners.

Chairman Fayluga said the barangay remains committed to supporting learning activities in schools.
โ€œEducation is very important for everyone. That is why we support programs that promote the health and learning of our children,โ€ Fayluga said.

The program was highlighted by performances from cute day care learners who showcased their talents and skills, making the Nutrition Month culmination both fun and educational for children and parents.

Mercedes Intensifies Fumigation Drive Amid 12 Dengue Cases

The Barangay Council of Mercedes continued its house-to-house fumigation activities on Monday following the recent recording of 12 dengue cases in the barangay.

Kagawad Irene Manaligod, Chairman of the Committee on Health and Sanitation, led the fumigation team in coordination with personnel from the City Health Office. The operation, conducted under the supervision of Barangay Chairman Romeo Fayluga, covered different zones and residential houses in the barangay.

โ€œThe fumigation is part of our intensified campaign to combat dengue and prevent further spread of the disease in the community,โ€ Manaligod said.

Chairman Fayluga said the barangay government remains fully supportive of health and sanitation initiatives.
โ€œFumigation is one of the effective ways to combat dengue. We will continue to support this kind of activity to ensure the safety and health of our constituents,โ€ Fayluga said.

Barangay officials said the fumigation drive will continue in areas identified as high-risk as part of the barangayโ€™s preventive measures against mosquito-borne diseases.

Mercedes Tanods Get Gear For Disaster Response

The Barangay Council of Mercedes, headed by Chairman Romeo Fayluga, distributed raincoats, rubber boots, flashlights, and whistles to Barangay Tanods following the regular Monday flag-raising ceremony.

Kagawad Arnold Juaton, chairman of the Committee on Disaster and Relief, said the items were procured using funds from the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (BDRRM) budget. The purpose is to equip tanods with essential gear for duty during rainy weather and night-time operations.

โ€œThe suits and gadgets will enable our Barangay Tanods to respond more effectively during emergencies and incidents, especially during inclement weather and at night,โ€ Juaton said.

Chairman Fayluga said the distribution is part of the barangayโ€™s continuing effort to ensure the safety and readiness of its force.

โ€œThe safety equipment will help our tanods respond easily to any incident in the community,โ€ Fayluga added.

Fayluga, together with the Barangay Council and Barangay Tanods, said they remain on standby and have been responding to any eventuality in the barangay at any time of the day or night.
