Last August 28, 2026, we had the privilege of joining Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa 2026 at Toddler Town โ€“ Playschool, with the theme โ€œGrowing Curious Minds Through Play.โ€

Through our Buhay at Gawa advocacy, we continue to support programs that nurture young minds, encourage curiosity, and create meaningful learning experiences for our children.

Strengthening partnerships and supporting community organizations in Zamboanga City! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ’™

Last August 31, 2026, we had the privilege of attending the Induction of Officers 2026 of the Council of the Greeks Zamboanga City Inc., together with 21 member fraternities, held at Auto Grill, Nunez St., Zamboanga City.

Through our Buhay at Gawa advocacy, we continue to value meaningful partnerships with organizations and communities that promote unity, leadership, and active participation in building a better Zamboanga City.

Teofisto Jamora Guingona Sr. (September 20, 1883 โ€“ April 11, 1963) was a prominent Filipino revolutionary soldier, lawyer, judge, and statesman. He served as a Senator of the Philippines and as Governor of the Department of Mindanao and Sulu. He was also the patriarch of the influential Guingona political family. His son, Teofisto โ€œTitoโ€ Guingona Jr., later became the 11th Vice President of the Philippines, while his grandson, TG Guingona, served as a Philippine senator.

Early Life and Education

Guingona was born in Guimaras, Iloilo, on September 20, 1883, to Don Vicente Guingona and Doรฑa Francisca Jamora. When the Philippine Revolution against Spain began, he joined the insurgent army. Afterward, he entered public service, becoming the first Municipal Treasurer of Nabalas from 1899 to 1901 and Municipal President from 1901 to 1902.

In 1907, Guingona graduated from the Escuela de Derecho with a Bachelor of Laws degree.

Political and Judicial Career

Guingona Sr. held various positions in local government, the legislature, and the judiciary throughout his career.

- Local Government: He began his public career as Municipal Treasurer of Nabalas (1899โ€“1901) and later served as its Municipal President (1901โ€“1902). He subsequently served as Governor of Agusan from 1913 to 1917.
- House of Representatives: He represented the 2nd District of Negros Oriental from 1909 to 1914.
- Mindanao and Sulu Administration: He served as Acting Governor of the Department of Mindanao and Sulu from 1918 to 1920. From 1920 to 1921, he became the first Director of the Bureau of Non-Christian Tribes.
- Philippine Senate: In 1921, he was appointed Senator for the 12th Senatorial District, which represented Mindanao and Sulu. He served until his resignation in 1923.
- Judiciary: He later served as a judge of the Court of First Instance from 1930 to 1931.

Family and Legacy

Guingona Sr. married Josefa Tayko of Siaton, Negros Oriental, and they had eight children, including Teofisto โ€œTitoโ€ Guingona Jr., who later became Vice President of the Philippines.

Teofisto Jamora Guingona Sr. died in Manila on April 11, 1963, at the age of 79. His long career in public service and his family's continued involvement in Philippine politics established his legacy as the patriarch of one of the country's prominent political families.

Listening, reviewing, and working for better policies. โš–๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

On August 17, 2026, I participated in the Public Hearing for the review of Proposed Ordinance No. 2026-55 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall, R.T. Lim Blvd., San Jose Cawa-Cawa, Zamboanga City. The proposed ordinance focuses on the Regulation of the Sale of Liquid Petroleum Products and Penalties for Violations, helping promote proper standards, accountability, and consumer protection.

Through our Buhay at Gawa advocacy, we remain committed to carefully reviewing policies, listening to our communities, and supporting ordinances that will truly benefit the people of Zamboanga City. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญโค๏ธ
