IUB Faculty Member Successfully Completes International Research Project under INTI IU Research Seed Grant

BAHAWALPUR: Dr. Waqas Mahmood, Assistant Professor, Department of Educational Training, Faculty of Education, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), has successfully completed an internationally collaborative research project supported under the INTI IU Research Seed Grant Phase 1/2024 of INTI International University, Nilai, Malaysia.

The research project, titled “The Impact of School Climate on Student Motivation and Learning Strategies (MSLQ) in Elite MARA Boarding Schools in Kelantan and Kedah, Malaysia,” was conducted over an 18-month period from 2 September 2024 to 28 February 2026 under Grant Reference No. INTI-FELA-01-04-2024.

Prof. Dr. Mohd Sofian Omar Fauzees, INTI International University, Malaysia, served as the Principal Researcher, while Dr. Waqas Mahmood participated as a Co-Researcher and contributed to the international research collaboration. The project brought together researchers from Malaysia, Pakistan, and Indonesia, reflecting the growing international engagement of IUB faculty in collaborative educational research.

The study focused on the relationship between school climate, student motivation, and learning strategies, using the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) in the context of Elite MARA Boarding Schools in Kelantan and Kedah, Malaysia.

The successful completion of the project represents a significant achievement in strengthening international research linkages between The Islamia University of Bahawalpur and INTI International University, Malaysia. It also demonstrates the commitment of IUB faculty members to engaging in externally supported research and contributing to evidence-based educational development.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Vice Chancellor, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, appreciated the research engagement of Dr. Waqas Mahmood and emphasized the importance of international research collaboration in enhancing the University’s global academic profile.

Prof. Dr. Irshad Hussain, Dean, Faculty of Education, IUB, also appreciated the successful completion of the project and encouraged faculty members to pursue further international research collaborations, competitive research opportunities, and joint publications with leading institutions abroad.

Dr. Waqas Mahmood expressed his gratitude to the leadership of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur and INTI International University for supporting international academic and research collaboration. He stated that such partnerships provide valuable opportunities for researchers to exchange knowledge, strengthen research capacity, and contribute to educational improvement through collaborative scholarship.

The PhD defence of Mr. Salman Tahir was successfully held on August 20, 2026. Mr. Salman presented his doctoral research titled, “Enhancing Smart Device Search with Intent-Driven Web of Things (WoT) Queries” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Najia Saher Chairperson, Department of Artificial Intelligence.
The defence was evaluated by the External Examiner, Dr. Muhammad Zulqarnain, Department of Computer Science & IT from CUVAS. The defence was attended by the Dean, Faculty of Computing, along with faculty members, researchers, and students. The session featured an insightful presentation and a comprehensive evaluation of the research work, reflecting the scholar’s dedication and academic excellence.
The research contributes significantly to the field of IoT and Web of Things (WoT) by proposing an intent-driven approach for understanding natural-language user queries and improving the discovery, search, and ranking of IoT resources.

The invitation has been jointly extended by the Foundation Fighting Blindness, Columbia, MD, USA, and the Nixon Vision Foundation, San Diego, USA. During his tour to the United States, Prof. Iqbal will also visit the Foundation Fighting Blindness in Columbia, MD, the Nixon Vision Foundation in San Diego, and the Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego.
