The 38th meeting of the ๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ž ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐„๐ฒ๐ž ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก (๐๐‚๐„๐‡) was held on 12th August 2026 in Islamabad, organized by the National Coordinator's Office at SIOVS, Hyderabad.

The meeting brought together Provincial Coordinators from across Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Asad Aslam, Professor Emeritus, College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences (COAVS), Lahore, along with Country Representatives of leading INGOs Sightsavers, Fred Hollows Foundation, CBM, and Brien Holden Vision Foundation.

A key focus of the session was Pakistan's strategic plan for the ๐†๐ฅ๐จ๐›๐š๐ฅ ๐’๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐„๐ฒ๐ž ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก, to be hosted by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda in November 2026 the summit, highlighting the value of vision to countries, communities, and individuals. Pakistan's case will be presented at the Summit.

As part of these preparations, a meeting with the ๐’๐ž๐œ๐ซ๐ž๐ญ๐š๐ซ๐ฒ, ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐…๐จ๐ซ๐ž๐ข๐ ๐ง ๐€๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐š๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ (๐Œ๐Ž๐…๐€), ๐†๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐๐š๐ค๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ง, ๐Œ๐ฌ. ๐€๐š๐ฆ๐ง๐š ๐๐š๐ฅ๐จ๐œ๐ก was also held to discuss the upcoming Global Summit for Eye Health.

He provided an overview of the activities undertaken, highlighting key achievements and ongoing initiatives, and briefed the attendees on the current status of various programs under SIOVS.

The session witnessed active participation from faculty members, medical officers, ophthalmologists, optometrists, and orthoptists of SIOVS, reflecting the institute's commitment to continuous professional development and academic excellence. The interactive discussion provided participants with valuable insights into contemporary approaches to keratoconus management, including advances in diagnosis, contact lens fitting, patient counseling, and evidence-based clinical practices.

The event brought together representatives from Government Departments, Development Organizations, and other key stakeholders to exchange ideas on strengthening the role of women in the cotton sector and creating more inclusive and sustainable agricultural systems.

Representing SIOVS, ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐‰๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ฅ ๐€๐ก๐ฆ๐ž๐ ๐‘๐š๐ฃ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ, Deputy Director Ophthalmic Community Services, attended the dialogue alongside ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐–๐š๐ก๐ž๐ž๐ ๐€๐ฅ๐ข, Project Manager, who coordinated SIOVS' participation in the event.

During the session, SIOVS shared the objectives and progress of the Comprehensive Eye Care for Female Agriculture & Garment Factory Workers Project in District Sanghar, implemented by SIOVS with the generous support of The Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF).

The presentation highlighted how access to quality eye care enables women working in agriculture and garment factories to protect their vision, improve their productivity, and enhance their overall well-being and economic participation.

The dialogue served as an excellent platform to strengthen partnerships, learn from diverse experiences, and reaffirm our shared commitment to women's empowerment and inclusive development.

The establishment of the Eye OPD was planned and coordinated by the Community Wing of the Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences - SIOVS, Hyderabad, under the Prevention and Control of Blindness (PCB) Program

This initiative reflects the vision and commitment of ๐๐ซ๐จ๐Ÿ. ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐Š๐ก๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐ˆ๐ช๐›๐š๐ฅ ๐“๐š๐ฅ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ซ, Executive Director of the Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (SIOVS), Hyderabad, to strengthen and expand accessible eye care services across Sindh.

Through the Prevention and Control of Blindness (PCB) Program, additional Eye OPDs are planned to be established in Karachi, further enhancing the delivery of quality ophthalmic care and contributing to the prevention of avoidable blindness in the region.
