New York, September 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: France has assumed the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council for September, taking over the council’s leadership as the United Nations enters a key month of high-level diplomatic activity.

France’s presidency comes as world leaders prepare to gather at UN Headquarters in New York for the annual high-level session of the UN General Assembly. Paris has reaffirmed its commitment to multilateralism and to strengthening international cooperation through the United Nations.

During its month-long presidency, France is expected to guide the council’s work on a range of international peace and security issues. According to the UN Security Council’s September programme, the body will address developments concerning Haiti, Iran and Sudan, among other matters.

Islamabad, September 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Yusuf Sharifzoda has been awarded the Medal of “Khizmati Shoista” (“For Meritorious Service”) in recognition of his contributions to the country.

The award was conferred by Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, on August 28, 2026, on the occasion of the 35th Anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The state distinction recognizes Ambassador Sharifzoda’s meritorious service and contribution to advancing the interests of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Dushanbe, September 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon, held a meeting with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on September 1 in Bishkek on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The two leaders discussed the current state of multifaceted cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia, as well as prospects for further development of bilateral relations.

Particular attention was paid to issues related to security and stability, trade and economic cooperation, and cultural and humanitarian ties.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the progress of construction of the Center for the Development of Gifted Children and the new building of the Mayakovsky Drama Theatre in Dushanbe.

The development of trade, entrepreneurship, investment cooperation and energy cooperation also featured prominently in the talks.

Baku, September 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama during her working visit to Serbia.

The meeting focused on the current state of Azerbaijan-Ghana relations and prospects for further developing bilateral cooperation.

Gafarova reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s interest in strengthening ties with Ghana and highlighted opportunities to expand cooperation across various sectors.

Bishkek, September 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: Pakistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on Wednesday signed a series of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at expanding cooperation in trade, security, education, health, environment, technology and other areas.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov witnessed the signing ceremony, during which representatives of the two countries exchanged the pre-signed documents.

Ashgabat, September 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has congratulated teachers, education workers, students and schoolchildren on Knowledge and Student Youth Day and the beginning of the 2026-2027 academic year, according to Turkmen state media.

In his message, the President noted that the new academic year would coincide with the ceremonial opening of new buildings of the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction in Ashgabat and the Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute in Turkmenabat. Modern secondary schools and kindergartens are also being commissioned in the country’s provinces.

The President further noted that Bilimli laptop computers would be presented as gifts to children entering school for the first time.

Berd Berdimuhamedov emphasized that significant efforts are being made to raise a well-educated, broad-minded and patriotic younger generation capable of effectively using modern technologies.

Ashgabat, September 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: A national seminar on biodiversity conservation and sustainable development is being held in Ashgabat within the framework of the Global Project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The two-day seminar is focused on updating Turkmenistan’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans and preparing the country’s Seventh National Report under the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The event is being organized in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Participants are reviewing the draft National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan of Turkmenistan for 2026–2035, along with key issues related to national reporting under the Convention on Biological Diversity.
