INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY 2026

Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Raheem.
Assalam-o-Alaikum, dear colleagues.

Today, on the 12th of May — the birth anniversary of the great Florence Nightingale — the world pauses to honour the women and men who stand at the very heart of healthcare. And here, at Capital Hospital Islamabad, I am privileged to look out at the finest example of that calling.

On behalf of the hospital administration, the medical faculty, and every patient who has walked through our doors, I extend my deepest and most sincere gratitude to each and every one of you — our nurses.

“You are not just caregivers. You are the steady hands in a moment of crisis, the calm voice in a room full of fear, the human warmth that no medicine can replace.”

Day and night, across wards and corridors, you carry responsibilities that go far beyond what any job description can capture. You monitor, you comfort, you educate, you advocate — and you do it with professionalism, compassion, and quiet dignity. The trust our patients place in you is among the most sacred trusts a human being can extend to another.

I also recognise that your work is not without sacrifice. Long shifts, emotional weight, and the relentless demands of a busy tertiary-care hospital test your endurance every single day. I want you to know — your leadership sees you. Your resilience does not go unnoticed.

This year’s theme reminds us that nurses are the backbone of any health system. At Capital Hospital, you are not support staff — you are central pillars. The quality of care we provide, the reputation we hold, and the lives we save are inseparable from your skill and dedication.

As we observe this day, let us also commit — as an institution — to continue investing in your growth: in training, in safe working conditions, in recognition, and in the respect that this noble profession fully deserves.

To every nurse here today: you chose a path of service, and Pakistan is better for it. Capital Hospital is better for it. Countless families have been reunited, countless lives extended, because of you.

On this International Nurses Day, I say to you from the heart — Thank you. You are our pride.

Pakistan Zindabad. Capital Hospital Zindabad.
