President of the Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF) of Pakistan, Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, MNA, warmly welcomed the Maldivian Parliamentary delegation from People’s Majlis of the Republic of Maldives at the Parliament House, Islamabad, today. The meeting underscored the historic and friendly ties between Pakistan and Maldives and focused on enhancing youth cooperation and parliamentary engagement.
The delegation actively participated in discussions emphasizing the importance of youth as key stakeholders in shaping the future of both nations. The YPF President highlighted the need for investing in education, skills development, and civic participation to empower young populations.
Several initiatives for collaboration were proposed, including the establishment of a Pakistan–Maldives Youth Parliamentary Dialogue to exchange ideas and address common challenges like youth unemployment, education reform, climate action, and digital innovation. Proposals also included expanding scholarships under the Pakistan Technical Assistance Programme (PTAP), joint training workshops, and youth exchange programs.
Acknowledging the Maldives’ frontline position in climate change, both sides agreed on empowering youth cooperation in climate diplomacy, focusing on sustainable tourism, renewable energy, and environmental protection.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the delegation's agreement to support and collaborate on the formation of a Young Parliamentarians Forum in the Maldives. This initiative will create a formal platform for young legislators in Maldives to engage actively in policymaking and to strengthen ties with their Pakistani counterparts.
YPF President, Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar along with Convenor Pak-Maldives PFG, Ms. Shaista Khan expressed confidence that this partnership would open new avenues for friendship, youth empowerment, and parliamentary cooperation.
