Official Visit to Lahore | Meeting with the Chief Minister of Punjab

During his official visit to Lahore, the Ambassador of Portugal had the honour of meeting with the Chief Minister of Punjab, Ms. Maryam Nawaz Sharif, for a wide-ranging discussion on strengthening the partnership between Portugal and the Government of Punjab.

The meeting explored opportunities to expand cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture, education, healthcare, tourism, culture, innovation and urban development. Portugal reaffirmed its commitment to promoting closer links between public institutions, universities and the private sector, encouraging business missions and identifying concrete projects of mutual benefit.

The Ambassador also highlighted Portugal's readiness to provide an attractive gateway for Pakistani companies seeking to invest in Europe, while welcoming the Chief Minister's invitation for Portuguese businesses to explore the many opportunities offered by Punjab.

Both sides underlined the importance of strengthening people-to-people contacts, cultural exchanges and mutual understanding, while reaffirming their shared ambition to further deepen the longstanding friendship between Portugal and Pakistan.

The Embassy of Portugal warmly welcomes the Chief Minister's commitment to supporting future Portuguese initiatives and looks forward to translating this positive dialogue into concrete cooperation.

Visita Oficial a Lahore | Reunião com a Chief Minister do Punjab

No âmbito da visita oficial a Lahore, o Embaixador de Portugal teve a honra de reunir com a Chief Minister do Punjab, Sra. Maryam Nawaz Sharif, para uma abrangente troca de impressões sobre o reforço da parceria entre Portugal e o Governo Provincial do Punjab.

A reunião permitiu analisar oportunidades de aprofundamento da cooperação nos domínios do comércio e investimento, agricultura, educação, saúde, turismo, cultura, inovação e desenvolvimento urbano. Portugal reafirmou a sua disponibilidade para promover contactos entre entidades públicas, universidades e empresas dos dois países, incentivar missões empresariais e identificar projetos concretos de benefício mútuo.

O Embaixador destacou igualmente Portugal como uma porta de entrada privilegiada para empresas paquistanesas interessadas em investir no mercado europeu, saudando o convite da Chief Minister para que empresas portuguesas explorem as oportunidades de investimento existentes no Punjab.

Ambas as partes sublinharam ainda a importância de reforçar os contactos entre os povos, os intercâmbios culturais e o conhecimento mútuo, reafirmando a vontade comum de aprofundar a sólida amizade que une Portugal e o Paquistão.

Ambassador of Portugal Visits Lahore

From 4 to 8 July 2026, the Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, Paulo Guedes Domingues, undertook an official visit to Lahore, capital of the Province of Punjab, to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and growing partnership between Portugal and Pakistan.

The visit included high-level meetings with the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and the Governor of Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, as well as engagements with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Forman Christian College, and other leading institutional, business, academic and cultural stakeholders.

A highlight of the programme was the National Day of Portugal Reception in Lahore, which brought together distinguished representatives from government, the diplomatic corps, business, academia, culture, the media and civil society. The reception celebrated the close ties between Portugal and Pakistan while reaffirming a shared commitment to expanding cooperation in trade and investment, education, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

The visit also provided an opportunity to showcase Lahore's rich cultural heritage and to reinforce Portugal's commitment to strengthening its presence and engagement across Pakistan.

Visita do Embaixador de Portugal a Lahore

De 4 a 8 de julho de 2026, o Embaixador de Portugal no Paquistão, Paulo Guedes Domingues, realizou uma visita oficial a Lahore, capital da Província do Punjab, com o objetivo de reforçar a longa amizade e a crescente parceria entre Portugal e o Paquistão.

O programa incluiu reuniões de alto nível com a Ministra-Chefe do Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, e com o Governador do Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, bem como encontros com a Câmara de Comércio e Indústria de Lahore, o Forman Christian College e outras instituições de referência dos setores empresarial, académico e cultural.

Um dos momentos altos da visita foi a Receção Comemorativa do Dia de Portugal em Lahore, que reuniu distintas personalidades do Governo, do corpo diplomático, dos setores empresarial e académico, da cultura, dos meios de comunicação social e da sociedade civil. A receção celebrou a estreita relação entre Portugal e o Paquistão e reafirmou a vontade comum de aprofundar a cooperação nas áreas do comércio e investimento, educação, cultura, turismo e contactos entre os povos.

A visita constituiu igualmente uma oportunidade para valorizar o extraordinário património cultural de Lahore e reafirmar o compromisso de Portugal em reforçar a sua presença e o seu relacionamento com todas as regiões do Paquistão.

As part of his official visit to Lahore, the Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, Paulo Guedes Domingues, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, Governor of Punjab.

The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to reaffirm the longstanding friendship between Portugal and Pakistan and to exchange views on ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Discussions focused on expanding collaboration in trade and investment, higher education, tourism, culture, renewable energy, agriculture and people-to-people contacts, while highlighting Punjab's growing role as one of Pakistan's leading economic and industrial hubs.

Ambassador Paulo Domingues thanked the Governor for the warm hospitality extended during his visit to Lahore and reaffirmed Portugal's commitment to further deepening its partnership with Pakistan, including through stronger engagement with the Province of Punjab.

On 6 July 2026, Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, H.E. Paulo Domingues, visited the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), where he met with LCCI President Mr. Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Portugal and Pakistan.
The meeting was also attended by Honorary Consul of Portugal Mr. Iftikhar Firoz, LCCI Vice President Mr. Khurram Lodhi, former Senior Vice President Mr. Zafar Mehmood Chaudhry, and Executive Committee Members.
The meeting provided an opportunity to explore new avenues for business collaboration, promote trade exchanges, and encourage stronger linkages between the private sectors of both countries. Discussions focused on expanding commercial ties, facilitating investment opportunities, and enhancing cooperation in sectors of mutual interest.

No dia 6 de julho de 2026, o Embaixador de Portugal no Paquistão, S.E. Paulo Domingues, visitou a Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), onde se reuniu com o Presidente da LCCI, Sr. Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, para discutir formas de reforçar ainda mais o comércio bilateral, o investimento e a cooperação económica entre Portugal e o Paquistão.
A reunião contou igualmente com a presença do Cônsul Honorário de Portugal, Sr. Iftikhar Firoz, do Vice-Presidente da LCCI, Sr. Khurram Lodhi, do antigo Senior Vice President, Sr. Zafar Mehmood Chaudhry, bem como de membros do Comité Executivo.
O encontro constituiu uma oportunidade para explorar novas vias de colaboração empresarial, promover os intercâmbios comerciais e incentivar ligações mais fortes entre os setores privados dos dois países. Courtesy Call on the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan

Ambassador Paulo Guedes Domingues had the honour of being received by H.E. Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, for a courtesy call and working meeting at Parliament House.

The meeting reaffirmed the excellent relations between Portugal and Pakistan, built on 76 years of friendship, dialogue and cooperation, and provided an opportunity to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the political, parliamentary, economic, academic and cultural fields.

Particular attention was given to parliamentary diplomacy, including the establishment of the new Portugal–Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Portuguese Parliament and the importance of strengthening contacts between the legislatures of both countries.

The meeting also addressed prospects for expanding economic cooperation, promoting trade and investment, strengthening academic partnerships and enhancing people-to-people exchanges. Regional developments and multilateral cooperation were likewise discussed.

Both sides expressed confidence that the forthcoming Portugal–Pakistan Bilateral Political Consultations and other high-level contacts scheduled for the coming months will provide fresh momentum to the bilateral partnership.

The Embassy of Portugal thanks H.E. Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani for the warm welcome, generous hospitality and constructive exchange of views.

Encontro com o Presidente do Senado do Paquistão

O Embaixador Paulo Guedes Domingues teve a honra de ser recebido por Sua Excelência Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Presidente do Senado do Paquistão, para uma audiência de cortesia e reunião de trabalho no Parlamento.

O encontro confirmou a excelente relação entre Portugal e o Paquistão, assente em 76 anos de amizade, diálogo e cooperação, e permitiu abordar formas de aprofundar a cooperação bilateral nos domínios político, parlamentar, económico, académico e cultural.

A diplomacia parlamentar ocupou lugar de destaque na reunião, tendo sido assinalada a constituição do novo Grupo Parlamentar de Amizade Portugal–Paquistão na Assembleia da República e a importância de reforçar os contactos entre os Parlamentos dos dois países.

Foram igualmente discutidas oportunidades para intensificar a cooperação económica, promover o comércio e o investimento, reforçar as parcerias académicas e aprofundar os contactos entre as duas sociedades. A agenda regional e a cooperação multilateral estiveram igualmente em destaque.

Ambas as partes manifestaram confiança de que as próximas Consultas Políticas Bilaterais Portugal–Paquistão e os contactos políticos previstos para os próximos meses contribuirão para imprimir um novo dinamismo à relação bilateral.

Paulo Domingues, received a delegation from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), headed by the Chairman Coordination, Mr. Malik Sohail Hussain, at the Embassy of Portugal in Islamabad. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on potential areas of economic cooperation and explore avenues for strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and business partnerships between Portugal and Pakistan.
