Dr. Imran Yousuf Represents the Philippines at FPCCI ASEAN Day Celebration

Karachi, Pakistan | August 8, 2026

Dr. Imran Yousuf, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of the Philippines in Karachi, represented the Philippines at the ASEAN Day Celebration organized by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). The event brought together business leaders, diplomats, members of the diplomatic community, government representatives, and stakeholders from Pakistan and ASEAN member states to commemorate ASEAN Day and highlight opportunities for greater regional cooperation. Where Mr. Atif Ikram - President, FPCCI, and other office bearers of FPCCI co-hosted the ASEAN Day celebration.

Speaking on behalf of the Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez - Ambassador of the Philippines to Pakistan, Dr. Imran Yousuf conveyed the Philippines' greetings and emphasized the country's important role as ASEAN Chair for 2026.

In his address, Dr. Yousuf highlighted the significance of ASEAN as a platform for regional dialogue, economic cooperation, friendship, connectivity, and shared prosperity. He emphasized that the Philippines' chairmanship in 2026 provides an important opportunity to strengthen partnerships not only among ASEAN member states but also with key partners such as Pakistan.

Dr. Yousuf underscored the importance of expanding Pakistan–ASEAN economic and commercial relations, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, technology, education, tourism, innovation, digital transformation, and people-to-people connectivity.

He noted that chambers of commerce and the private sector have a critical role to play in transforming diplomatic relationships into practical economic partnerships. Greater interaction between Pakistani businesses and ASEAN enterprises, he observed, can open new avenues for investment, entrepreneurship, technology exchange, and market access.

Philippines' ASEAN Chairmanship 2026

Representing the Philippines, Dr. Yousuf also highlighted the country's responsibility in steering ASEAN during its 2026 chairmanship under the theme:

“Navigating Our Future, Together”

The theme reflects ASEAN's collective commitment to addressing emerging challenges while creating new opportunities through cooperation, resilience, innovation, and inclusive growth.

Dr. Yousuf emphasized that ASEAN's strength lies in its ability to work collectively while respecting the diversity, sovereignty, and individual strengths of its member states.

He further stressed that regional cooperation must ultimately benefit people and communities, particularly through opportunities for youth, entrepreneurs, professionals, students, and businesses.

Strengthening Pakistan–Philippines Relations

As Honorary Consul General of the Philippines in Karachi, Dr. Yousuf has continued to promote stronger bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Philippines through diplomatic, commercial, educational, cultural, and people-to-people initiatives.

His participation at the FPCCI ASEAN Day Celebration reinforced the importance of economic diplomacy and private-sector engagement in strengthening Pakistan's relationship with ASEAN.

The event also provided an opportunity for participants to explore avenues for increased collaboration between Pakistani businesses and ASEAN markets and to reaffirm the shared commitment to friendship, partnership, and sustainable development.

Dr. Yousuf expressed appreciation to FPCCI for organizing the ASEAN Day celebration and for providing a platform where diplomatic missions, business leaders, and the private sector could engage in meaningful dialogue.

He concluded by emphasizing that the future of regional cooperation depends on the ability of countries, institutions, businesses, and communities to work together:

Advancing Inclusive Education Through Psychology and Compassion

It was a privilege for , Honorary Consul General of the Philippines in Karachi, to be invited as the Guest Speaker at the Philippine Embassy In Pakistan to deliver an insightful lecture on "The Psychology of Inclusive Education and Building Equitable Societies."

Drawing upon more than three decades of professional experience in psychology, mental health, special education, and neurodevelopmental rehabilitation, Dr. Imran Yousuf shared practical strategies and evidence-based approaches to creating inclusive environments where neurodiverse children are empowered to learn, grow, and thrive alongside their peers. His lecture emphasized that inclusion is not merely an educational policy but a societal responsibility that requires empathy, awareness, accessibility, and collaborative action.

The session highlighted the importance of early intervention, multidisciplinary support, family engagement, and community participation in building equitable societies where every individual—regardless of ability—is provided equal opportunities to succeed. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions on strengthening inclusive education systems and fostering a culture of acceptance and belonging.

The event concluded with remarks by Ms. Rain Mendoza, Vice Consul, Philippine Embassy In Pakistan who thanked Dr. Imran Yousuf for sharing his expertise and highlighted the importance of international collaboration in advancing inclusive education and social equity. She reaffirmed the Embassy's commitment to promoting initiatives that strengthen educational partnerships and create opportunities for all.

The Philippine Embassy in Islamabad reminds all Filipinos in Pakistan that a Philippine passport is the property of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines pursuant to Section 4 of Republic Act No. 11983 (New Philippine Passport Act). Your passport is your primary proof of identity and nationality while abroad. It should always remain in your personal possession and safekeeping.

REMEMBER:
*Always keep your Philippine passport in your personal possession and secure custody.
*Never surrender your passport to another individual, employer, recruiter, lender, friend, or relative for safekeeping unless required by law or by a competent government authority.
*Do not use your passport as collateral or security for loans, debts, employment, accommodation, or any private transaction.
*Do not allow any person to confiscate, retain, or withhold your passport without lawful authority.
*Immediately report to the Philippine Embassy or the nearest Philippine Honorary Consular Office any instance where your passport has been taken, withheld, or is being used to restrict your freedom of movement.

Under Sections 21 and 22 of Republic Act No. 11983, the unauthorized confiscation, retention, withholding, or possession of another person’s Philippine passport may constitute a prohibited act punishable under Philippine law by the corresponding fines and/or imprisonment, without prejudice to liability under the laws of the host country.
