Finland has announced plans to close its embassies in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Myanmar in 2026 due to operational and strategic reasons.
The decision is linked to changes in political situations, limited economic ties, and Finland’s strategic review of its global missions.
Preparations for closure have already begun. Finnish authorities say the move will allow them to focus resources on countries of greater strategic and economic importance.
The decision follows Finland’s earlier closure in Pakistan in 2012 and aims to strengthen Finland’s foreign and security policy priorities.
