This week, I had the opportunity to visit two child friendly safe spaces in rural Multan and spend time with children whose lives were disrupted by last year’s floods.

What stayed with me most was their spirit. Their smiles, their energy and their ability to find moments of joy and learn important life skills despite everything they have been through.

Across Multan, Jhang and Muzaffargarh, UNICEF Pakistan supports 21 safe spaces, which provide children with essential child protection, life skills and mental health and psychosocial support as communities continue to recover from the floods.

Recovery is not only about rebuilding what was lost. It is also about helping children feel safe again, heal, play, learn and look towards the future with hope.

Every child deserves that chance.

Meaningful change begins when we listen to children, learn and work together.

I was pleased to join hands with the Special Education Department, Government of Punjab, for a thoughtful dialogue on the future of the inclusive education in the province - from what it is today to what is possible in future!

The perspectives shared by students, educators, policymakers and experts offered valuable insights into how we can better equip teachers, strengthen institutions and use technology to help children with disabilities fulfil their potential. We took note that the word 'inclusion' has been widely incorporated into our narratives in the last 10 years in Punjab, a big u-turn from rejection.

My sincere appreciation to Secretary Special Education Mr Shoeb Iqbal Syed, his team and our UNICEF teams for their leadership and excellent work in creating a space for honest discussion and collective action.

Every child has right to education. Our responsibility is to build an education system that recognizes and realizes this right.

Happy Independence Day, Pakistan!

Today, we celebrate the courage, resilience and spirit of Pakistan, while renewing our hope for a brighter and more inclusive future for every child.

At UNICEF’s Punjab Field Office, our team came together to mark the occasion with patriotic songs, laughter and meaningful conversations about independence and the values that unite us.

It was a wonderful reminder that while we take pride in our past, we must continue working together to shape a better future.

Every child deserves the healthiest possible start in life, and every mother deserves the support she needs to provide it.

It was an honour to join Khawaja Imran Nazir, Provincial Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare, Government of Punjab, along with senior government officials, healthcare professionals and development partners in Lahore to mark World Breastfeeding Week 2026.

The event reaffirmed our shared commitment to supporting mothers, strengthening breastfeeding-friendly health services, raising community awareness and protecting breastfeeding and child nutrition through effective legislation. We concluded with a collective pledge and an Independence Day cake-cutting ceremony, reminding us that a stronger Pakistan begins with healthier mothers and children.

پیدائش سے پہلے چھ ماہ تک ماں کا دودھ بچے کے لئے مکمل غذا ہے۔ یہ بچے کو بیماریوں سے بھی محفوظ رکھتا ہے۔
اس دوران بچے کو پانی، شہد، گھٹی یا کوئی اور غذا دینے کی ضرورت نہیں۔ ایسا کرنے سے ماں کا دودھ پلانے کا عمل متاثر ہو سکتا ہے اور بچے کی صحت کو خطرہ لاحق ہو سکتا ہے۔
ہر ماں کو اس عرصے میں خاندان کے تعاون اور صحت کے ماہرین کی درست رہنمائی کی ضرورت ہوتی ہے تاکہ وہ اعتماد کے ساتھ اپنے بچے کو صرف اپنا دودھ پلا سکے۔

Yes, those photos you’ve seen are real.

More than 18 years ago, a baby named Lamine Yamal and his mom Sheila met Lionel Messi at a UNICEF fundraising photoshoot.

Today, their achievements on the pitch inspire millions. Off the pitch, both Messi and Lamine Yamal use their voices and platforms as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors to support and advocate for children around the world.

The goal? That every child survives, thrives, and fulfils their potential.

We are proud to have them on our team.
