Project Review Meeting | NGC Power Transmission Initiatives

On May 25, 2026, the National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) hosted a high-level project review meeting at WAPDA House, Lahore — bringing together NGC leadership and a monitoring team from the Planning Commission of Pakistan.

The Planning Commission team was led by Engr. Amir Zamir Ahmed Khan, Project Director (Monitoring & Evaluation), while NGC was represented by Managing Director Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik, GM (Project Delivery), senior officials, and project directors.

Key initiatives reviewed:

✅ Capacity Building for the BEST-PAK Program
✅ Installation of Reactive Power Compensation Devices across the NGC Network
✅ Power evacuation infrastructure for Suki Kinari, Kohala & Mahal Hydropower Projects

Discussions covered revised PC-1s, feasibility reports, financial & physical progress, fund utilization, milestone tracking, and bottleneck resolution — ensuring these critical projects stay on course.

Strong coordination between NGC and the Planning Commission is exactly what Pakistan's energy sector needs to move from planning to ex*****on. 🇵🇰⚡

National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) continues its unwavering commitment to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted power transmission across the country.

Recently, highly skilled maintenance and Protection & Instrumentation (P&I) teams of Asset Management Department North, NGC at 220kV Grid Station Gakkhar and 220kV Grid Station Sarfraz Nagar carried out critical maintenance operations — replacing faulty current transformers and damaged insulator posts on high-voltage switchgear — ensuring the grid remains healthy and efficient.

These timely interventions — both planned and emergent — reflect NGC's proactive approach to grid health management. Every repair, every test, and every tightened connector is a step toward a stronger national power network.

Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Delegation Meets MD NGC Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik

A delegation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), led by Chief Investment Officer Mr. Konstantin Limitovskiy, visited the National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) at House, Lahore, for a meeting with Managing Director Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik. DMD (Asset Development & Management) Engr. Rasheed A. Bhutto was also present on the occasion.

The engagement focused on advancing strategic cooperation between NGC and AIIB, with discussions centred on potential investment avenues, modernization of the national network, and joint initiatives to strengthen the reliability, efficiency, and long-term resilience of Pakistan's power infrastructure.

NGC Holds HSE Training Workshop at Ghazi Road Grid Station

The National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) organized a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Training Workshop at the 220kV Grid Station Ghazi Road, Lahore. Managing Director NGC, Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik, attended the event as Chief Guest.

The workshop, themed "Building a Sustainable Safety Culture Across NGC," featured an HSE Framework Overview by Safety Consultant Mr. Nadeem Ahmad, covering key safety policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and organizational responsibilities. The HSE Core Team conducted technical sessions on Work at Height, Permit to Work (PTW) Management, and Waste Management, followed by an interactive Q&A session.

In his closing remarks, Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik stressed that safety is a shared responsibility and called on all employees to uphold safe working practices across NGC. He announced that HSE-related Key Performance Indicators will be introduced to strengthen and sustain the organization's safety culture.

The Managing Director also visited the station's switchyard and control room and planted a sapling, reflecting NGC's commitment to environmental responsibility.

General Manager Asset Management North Engr. Anees Ahmad Goojer, General Manager Asset Management South Engr. Muhammad Rafique, Executive Business Advisor Engr. Shahid Shafi Sial, Chief People and Culture Officer Mr. Shafquat Hussain Butt, Director General HSE, Chief Engineer Asset Management North, along with officers and staff of Ghazi Road Grid Station, participated in the workshop.

LUMS Energy Institute (LEI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), organized a one-day workshop titled “Training Media Personnel on Power Sector Fundamentals” at LUMS, Lahore.

Minister for Energy (Power Division), Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari emphasized the importance of accurate and balanced reporting on Pakistan’s power sector and highlighted key reforms aimed at transparency, affordability, and sustainability.

The workshop brought together journalists, media professionals, and students to build understanding of Pakistan’s electricity sector, including generation, transmission, tariffs, subsidies, circular debt, distributed solar, and market reforms.

Managing Director NGC Visits 500 kV Grid Station Gatti, Faisalabad

Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik, Managing Director of the National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC), conducted a field visit to 500 kV Grid Station Gatti, Faisalabad — one of the oldest 500 kV stations in Pakistan, commissioned in the 1980s.

Accompanied by Deputy Managing Director (AD&M) Engr. Rasheed A. Bhutto, GM Asset Management (North) Engr. Anees Ahmed Goojer, GM (Procurement & Contract Management) Engr. Sajjad Haider Syed, Chief Engineer (Material Procurement & Management), and CE Asset Management (North), the MD received a detailed briefing on the station’s operational status.

He directed the Asset Management team to strengthen condition-based monitoring of aged assets, along with timely maintenance and replacements according to asset health.

The MD also inspected the ongoing warehouse pavement work and instructed the team to accelerate the pace for earliest completion.
He appreciated the team’s efforts and reaffirmed NGC’s commitment to proactive asset management and a strong, reliable transmission system.
