Pre-PDWP Meeting: Reviewing Forestry and Wildlife Schemes
Key Highlights:
* A Pre-PDWP meeting regarding the revised PC-I of two Forestry and Wildlife schemes was held at the Planning & Development Board, Govt. of the Punjab
* Meeting was chaired by Member Environment and Climate Change, Ms. Nadia Shafiq
* Secretary Forestry and Wildlife Department, Punjab, Capt. (Retd.) Tahir Zafar Abbasi, and representatives of other relevant departments participated
* Schemes discussed included the Chief Minister’s Plant for Pakistan Initiative and Eco-Tourism at Changa Manga and Wetlands - Vchhali and Chashma
* The committee reviewed the revised scope, cost estimates, and implementation arrangements for both schemes
* Emphasis was placed on ensuring environmental sustainability, forest conservation, and eco-tourism development in line with provincial priorities

The Representative of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Pakistan, Mr Daniyal Mansoor, Provincial Coordinator/ Climate Change Advisor, GIZ and Ms Rahila Waseem, Junior Climate Change Advisor, visited the Planning & Development Board, Punjab, to extend warm congratulations to Ms Nadia Shafiq on assuming the charge of the Member Environment & Climate Change at the P&D Board.

The meeting reflected a shared commitment towards strengthening collaboration on environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and green development initiatives in Punjab. Both sides discussed the importance of partnerships in advancing climate-responsive planning and sustainable development for the province.

- The Smog Monitoring Unit (SMU) highlighted its pivotal role in tackling Lahore’s smog through strengthened monitoring, data integration, and policy support
- Discussion on the Smog Mitigation Action Plan 2025-26, a coordinated multi-departmental framework led by SMU for implementation and inter-departmental coordination
- Key focus on environmental sustainability, Revolving Fund, pre-disaster preparedness, and the Government of Punjab’s proactive climate resilience measures
- Punjab Climate Observatory highlighted as a flagship platform for data-driven decision-making, with research support from Urban Unit
- Emphasis on integrated approaches, collaborative action, and evidence-based governance to build a resilient and sustainable Punjab.
