Expresses Deep Concern over Ambassador of the United States of America to India Sergio Gor,s Remarks on Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front - JKLF - notes with deep concern the recent statement by the American Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, characterizing Jammu and Kashmir as “an important part of India” and an “internal matter of India.”
JKLF has observed that such characterizations do not reflect the internationally recognized status of Jammu Kashmir. The genesis of the issue over Jammu Kashmir is internationally recognised through multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions and remains to be resolved one way or another.
"It is intrinsically linked to the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu Kashmir on both sides of the ceasefire line , as enshrined in international law and in the UN Charter", Shakeel Jaral, Central Spokesman of JKLF, has stated in a statement.
By calling Jammu Kashmir as "an important part of India” the American High Commissioner has not done service to upholding long standing American stance in the UN, which provides military observers in the region because of the ongoing conflict.
JKLF spokesman has said that the ambassador's statement is not only factually incorrect but a direct afront to international law and the the United Nations' stances on occupied territories worldwide.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have consistently sought a peaceful and just resolution to the dispute in accordance with UN Charter and the aspirations of the people of JammuKashmir cannot be ignored with passage of time.
JKLF spokesman reiterates that the people of Jammu Kashmir on both sides do not accept any unilateral steps or legal changes to determine their political future and that the final status of the entire state of Jammu Kashmir can only be determined through a free, fair, and impartial process of self-determination.
We call upon the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the European Union, and all concerned members of the international community to press upon both India and Pakistan to help facilitate a peaceful resolution of the longstanding issue of self-determination in Jammu Kashmir.
JKLF spokesman stated that their organisation remains committed to non-violent political struggle on both sides and will continue to pursue for peace, justice, and dignity of all the people of entire state of Jammu Kashmir.
