Neonatal Surgery Update at Teaching Hospital Turbat
Teaching Hospital Turbat has achieved an important milestone in neonatal surgical care. During the last 20 days, five neonatal surgical cases were successfully operated upon by the Paediatric Surgery team under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Jabbar Baloch, Paediatric Surgeon.
The cases included:
* Two cases of high anorectal malformation (ARM) / imperforate a**s.
* One case of Hirschsprung disease with sigmoid perforation.
* One complex gastric perforation, involving both the greater and lesser curvatures, extending up to the fundus and abdominal part of the oesophagus.
* One case of omphalocele.
Sadly, one patient expired despite all possible efforts. Another neonate with high ARM remains under treatment and has multiple congenital comorbidities, including cleft palate, complex cardiac anomaly, imperforate a**s and cryptorchidism.
These challenging neonatal surgeries reflect the growing capacity of Teaching Hospital Turbat to provide advanced paediatric and neonatal surgical services for patients from Makran Division.
This achievement would not have been possible without the dedicated teamwork of the entire Paediatric Department. Special appreciation is extended to the Anaesthesia Department for its vital contribution in managing these high-risk neonatal cases.
We also extend our special thanks to our respected senior cardiologist, Dr. Saeed baloch, for his valuable support in evaluating and ruling out cardiac anomalies and helping in the multidisciplinary management of these critically ill neonates.
