First ascent on this day, 2004.05.26; Kumbhakarna, (aka Jannu, 7711m) via the "Direct North Face", a.k.a. "The Wall of Shadows", by a Russian party.

In 2004, after a failed attempt the previous year, a Russian team led by Alexander Odintsov succeeded in climbing the direct north face route through the headwall. This required big-wall aid techniques in a sustained, committing setting at over 7500m, a major achievement. However, some in the climbing community were upset to learn that the Russians left a good deal of equipment on the wall, provoking a debate over what constitutes appropriate modern style on such a route. Despite the controversy, the team was awarded the Piolet d'Or for the ascent.

Mount Everest was overcrowded as history was made! 🏔️🔥

A record-breaking 274 climbers successfully summited the world’s highest peak in a single day, turning the legendary mountain into a line of dreams, determination, and endurance. From the deadly Khumbu Icefall to the thin air of the summit ridge, every step demanded courage, patience, and strength.

Everest continues to inspire adventurers from around the world — but this massive traffic jam also reminds us of the risks, challenges, and changing reality of modern mountaineering.

🚨BREAKING: Norwegian speed-climbing phenom Kristin Harila has successfully scaled Mt. Lhotse (8,516m) on the morning of May 21, 2026.

This monumental ascent comes a mere four days after she conquered the highly technical Mt. Nuptse (7,861m) on May 17.

Harila is now firmly on track to secure the ultimate Himalayan "Triple Crown" (Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse), reportedly without supplemental oxygen, with only Mount Everest left to conquer in her historic spring campaign.

Best wishes to her and heartfelt congratualtions.

How Long Does It Take To Climb Everest Mountain (8848.86m)? :

Well, climbing a high mountain is a long and gradual process, and it may vary on weather conditions and physical strength. And Mt. Everest is not an exception. In general, it takes around Eight to Ten days to reach Everest Base Camp after spending few days in Kathmandu. And at the Everest Base Camp, you’ll spend around six weeks on Training, Proper Acclimatization,.Rotation to the higher camps & Final Summit Push. One of the intentions of staying at Everest Base Camp for so long is getting used to cold weather, harsh environments, and being familiar with the mountain you are going to the summit.

However, the Everest Climbing Itinerary may differ according to the weather conditions and climbers‘ adaptation to the environment and other issues. So, overall in general it takes 8 to 10 weeks (55days to 70 days) for the whole process of the Everest Expedition.
