Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. IOM formally joined the United Nations system in 2016 and became the UN Migration Agency. IOM is present in more than 100 countries and has over 590 Country Offices and
Sub-offices worldwide. As the leading inter-governmental organization promoting humane and orderly migration since 1951, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through four broad areas of migration arrangement that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development:

Forced migration. Cross-cutting activities include the promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance, protection of migrants’ rights, migration health and the gender dimensions of migration. In September 2020, the IOM Mission in Qatar was established, acting as the third IOM Mission in the Gulf. Its establishment was a recognition of the growing ties between the Government of Qatar and IOM, as well as the sincere desire to work together to support Qatar’s national agenda.
