H. E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben joined Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, at the Clean Energy Conference Australia–Africa 2026, held in Kigali, Rwanda, from 6–7 August 2026.

The conference brought together policymakers, investors, industry leaders and development partners from Africa and Australia to explore practical pathways towards a sustainable energy future, with discussions focusing on clean energy investment, renewable energy, critical minerals, grid modernisation, green hydrogen, climate finance and clean mobility.

Kenya remains committed to accelerating its transition to clean and affordable energy while creating opportunities for investment, innovation and sustainable economic growth. Our engagement with Australia offers valuable opportunities to leverage Australian capital, technology and expertise in support of Africa’s energy ambitions.

Last evening, H. E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben had the pleasure of hosting the Gor Mahia team for dinner at the Official Residence in Kigali.

It was a wonderful opportunity to interact with the players and technical team, encourage them, and celebrate their journey as they prepare for today’s CECAFA Kagame Cup Final against Rayon Sports of Kigali.

As our boys take to the pitch today, Amb. Janet wishes them confidence, unity and determination. Carry the spirit of Kenya with you and give it your very best. 🇰🇪

H. E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben had the pleasure of hosting Hon. Erastus Edung Ethekon, Chairperson, Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) who paid a courtesy call at the Chancery. Hon. Chairperson Ethekon was accompanied by Commissioner Moses Alutalala Mukwana and staff members of IEBC.

The team met with staff at the High Commission as well as the Leadership of Association of Kenyans Living in Rwanda (AKR) led by their Chairperson Mr. Wycliffe Aganda. They had the opportunity to respond to various in regard to the work of IEBC and the involvement of the Diaspora.

Amb. Janet was joined by the Minister Councellor and other staff from the High Commission.

On 4th August 2026, the Kenya High Commission in Kigali received the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs and Research) of Mount Kigali University, Dr. Russell Omondi, and the Dean of the Faculty of Business, Dr. John Paul Okello, on a courtesy call.

Dr. Omondi stated that the visit was to familiarize himself with the Mission and invited its representatives to the University's graduation ceremony scheduled for 7th August 2026.

Minister Counsellor Mr. Nasser Okoth conveyed greetings from the High Commissioner and reaffirmed the Mission's strong partnership with MKU, highlighting previous collaborations, including the installation of the University's first Chancellor and other joint engagements. He assured the delegation of the Mission's continued support and cooperation and wished Dr. Omondi success in his new role.

On 4th August 2026, the Kenya High Commission in Kigali, Rwanda, welcomed 36 students from the Peace and Environmental Club of Kenya High School, Nairobi, accompanied by four teachers, for a courtesy visit to the Mission.

The delegation was received by Minister Counsellor Mr. Nasser Okoth and Consular Officer Ms. Joyce Marube, who briefed the students on the strong Kenya–Rwanda bilateral relations, the role of the Kenyan diaspora in Rwanda, and the Mission's consular services.

The students shared that they chose Rwanda for their study tour to learn from its remarkable achievements in peacebuilding, reconciliation, and environmental conservation. Their itinerary includes visits to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Nyandungu Eco-Park, and other key learning sites.

The Mission wished the students and their teachers a successful and enriching study tour.

On Monday, 3rd August, 2026, H.E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben, High Commissioner, received the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Board of Directors, led by H.E Ahmed Mukhtar, at the Chancery for a courtesy call.

The delegation was in Kigali for official engagements with the KPA Kigali Liaison Office and the Rwandan authorities with the aim of buttressing trade relations between Kenya and Rwanda.

H.E Mukhtar was accompanied by: Mr. Daniel Mugao – Director; Mr. Wilson Mwai – Director; Ms. Beatrice Nyamoita – Director; Ms. Cheryl Majiwa – Director; Mr. Edward Kamau – General Manager, Corporate Services; Dr. Fred Oyugi - General Manager, Audit and Risk Assurance; Mr. Turasha Kinyanjui – Corporation Secretary; among other officials. Also in attendance were: Mr. Nasser Okoth – Minister Counsellor, Ms. Joyce Marube – Immigration Attaché and Ms. Philes Sagini – Second Secretary at the High Commission.

Their discussion focused on enhancing collaboration between the High Commission and Kenya Ports Authority in order to increase trade volumes between the two countries as well as explore new avenues for trade in the Rwandan market.

Amb. Oben appreciated the continuous support by KPA to the High Commission and reassured the delegation of the High Commission’s commitment in suppporting the KPA Liaison Office in Kigali towards promoting trade relations between Kenya and Rwanda.

Congratulations to Gor Mahia FC on securing a well-deserved place in the CECAFA Kagame Cup semi-finals following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Garde Républicaine of Djibouti.

H. E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben had the pleasure to join Gor Mahia President, Tusker FC President, CECAFA officials, representatives from Kenya's Ministry of Sports, and members of the Kenya High Commission in Rwanda to witness this remarkable achievement.
