MWO-AlKhobar and Filcom Lead Pasasalamat
among OFW-Leaders & Committee Groups

Labor Attaché Solaiman C. Mutia, Chairperson of the Executive Committee and Mr. Raymond O. Ibañez, Event President and representative of the Filipino Community (FilCom), led the Pasasalamat Among FilCom groups held on 03 July 2026 at the International Philippine School in Al Khobar (IPSA) in Al Khobar, KSA.

An acronym for Pagkilala sa Sakripisyo, Samahan, Lakas (Tungo sa) Matagumpay (na Pagdiriwang), the Pasasalamat (Thanksgiving) was designed to show gratitude and recognize the valuable contributions of the various Committee groups and members who tirelessly labored and selflessly shared their time, talent and resources in staging this year’s month-long celebration of the 128th Commemoration of Philippine Independence.

As a show of support and in the spirit of bayanihan, 42 FilCom groups contributed a total of SAR32,000 which was added to the pooled resources thru donations and fund-raising activities including auctions of donated paintings amounting to 63,846 bringing the total funds raised to SAR95,846.00. The group has a Net Fund of SAR 8,295.25 after paying off all expenses totaling to SAR 87,550.00.

The highlight of the Pasasalamat was the awarding of Plaques of Commendation and Certificates of Appreciation to approximately 140 Individuals, FilCom Groups and valuable Donors as a reaffirmation of their generosity, value of volunteerism and sense of community.

Further, the Pasasalamat also witnessed the ‘changing of guards’ or the transfer of Chairmanship for the 2027 Philippine Independence Celebration from the outgoing Chairperson Raymond O. Ibañez of AFCSCOM to the incoming Chairperson, Khaisar Lucman Abdulcader of the OFW Congress.

“This is my first time to attend Independence Day Celebration in the Eastern Region as Labor AttachĂ© and I am so amazed and full of pride by your show of unity. You made the spirit of bayanihan come alive and there is no greater joy to see than Filipino groups taking center-stage in an important occasion such as the Independence Day Celebration. You are amazing people,” concluded Labor AttachĂ© Mutia in his message. # # #

H.E. Ambassador Balatbat Visits Distressed Workers in Al Khobar

Labor Attaché Solaiman C. Mutia led the personnel of Migrant Workers Office-Al Khobar (MWO-AlKhobar) in hosting His Excellency Ambassador Raymond R. Balatbat during his visit to the Shelter for Distressed OFWs on 20 June 2026 in Al Khobar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Ambassador Balatbat interacted and held a dialogue with both male and female distressed OFWs who are presently accommodated in the Shelter. He was apprised of the various cases of wards which generally were related to breach of contract and other labor-related claims, cybercrime, travel ban due to personal financial obligations, immigration-related infractions and medical issues.

The cases of four (4) mothers and their children who are facing charges of immorality for engaging in illicit affairs including the case of two girls abandoned by both their parents and left behind in Al Khobar were also extensively discussed including the various interventions of MWO-Al Khobar in resolving these cases.

At present, the MWO AlKhobar-managed Shelter for Distressed OFWs houses 27 Males, 49 Females and 6 children. The Shelter offers a temporary accommodation to distressed OFWs while awaiting the resolution of their cases and eventual repatriation to the Philippines.

Ambassador Balatbat assured the distressed workers and the officials of MWO-Al Khobar of the assistance and support of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh specifically in making representation to the various government agencies of the host country and whatever intervention is required to facilitate the resolution of the OFWs’ cases.

The distressed OFWs expressed appreciation to Ambassador Balatbat for his visit and in making them feel cared for and valued. # # #

Kalayaan Celebration in AlKhobar: A Show of Force, Unity, National Identity and Pride
MWO-Alkhobar and FilCom Commemorate the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence

Filipinos never disappoint. They came in droves and in full force to celebrate the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence held on 19 June 2026 at the International Philippine School in Al Khobar (IPSA), Al Khobar, KSA.

Hosted by Labor AttachĂ© Solaiman C. Mutia as Chairperson of the Executive Committee and Mr. Raymond O. Ibañez, Event President and representative of the Filipino Community (FilCom), this year’s Independence Day celebration was graced by His Excellency Raymond R. Balatbat, Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he stressed in his message that Independence Day is “an important occasion to celebrate the nation’s freedom, history, cultural heritage, national identity and sovereignty.”

The event started off with a Grand Parade of the 102 registered Filipino groups in the Eastern Region of KSA. This was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony as a tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, and countless selfless Filipinos who sacrificed blood and lives for the nation to gain freedom and sovereignty.

With this year’s theme, “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.”, video messages of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., Secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers Hans Leo J. Cacdac, & OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan were played which commonly underscored the parallel sacrifices of many OFWs for their families and communities and their pivotal role in nation-building. The messages also stressed the collective responsibility of all Filipinos to continuously safeguard the country’s freedom and uphold the values of patriotism and service and reaffirmed the Philippine government’s commitment to promote the welfare of all Filipinos and ensure that all lead lives with dignity and purpose and freely pursue their dreams.

The celebration also honored seven (7) Outstanding Migrant Workers for their exemplary contributions to the enrichment of their respective professions and to community service specifically in safeguarding the rights and uplifting the plight of Filipinos, both in the host and home countries. Among the awardees include Jessica V. Robles, Dr. Rhona M. Sonsona, Michael M. Olit, Teresita T. Molina, Engr. Benedict A. De Torres, Engr. Richard B. De Belen, and Adalla T. Basco.

The event was capped with the Kalayaan 2026 Pinoy Popstar Search KSA National Finals, a platform for the discovery of notable talents which was spearhead by the Filpop Family Club headed by Dr. Ronnie Molina. Bound by common love for music, young Filipinos are given opportunity to channel their energies creatively and to build self-confidence and discipline.

In the said Search, Ms. Rochelle Ubayubay of the Eastern Region and Ms. Rich Espinosa from the Central Region bagged the Top 1 and Top 2 best performers, respectively, while Ms. Ezra Micah M. Defensor from Western Region emerged as the Wild Card Finalist. All three talents are slated to face-off with other singing prodigies from other Middle East countries in the 2026 Pinoy Popstar Middle East Grand Final Showdown tentatively set on August 2026 in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The celebration gathered together 841 OFWs belonging to 102 Filcom groups. Overall, Labor AttachĂ© Mutia described the event as “a triumph of unity, cultural pride, national identity and a testament of the undying spirit of bayanihan,”. Indeed, the collective cheer of “Mabuhay ang malayang Pilipino, mabuhay ang Bagong Pilipinas!” resounds throughout the kingdom and all corners of the world. # # #

Labor Attaché Solaiman C. Mutia and personnel of MWO-OWWA AlKhobar joined the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh and other attached agencies in the commemoration of the 128th anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence held on 11 June 2026 at the Embassy grounds in Riyadh.

An important occasion to celebrate the nation’s freedom, history, cultural heritage, national identity and sovereignty, the event started off with the ceremonial raising of the Philippine Flag. This was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony which was a tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, and many other selfless Filipinos who offered their lives in the fight for the nation’s freedom and sovereignty.

With this year’s theme, “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.”, video messages of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., Secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers Hans Leo J. Cacdac, & OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne M. Caunan were played including the reading of messages of the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro and PagIbig CEO Marilene C. Acosta. The messages commonly underscored the collective responsibility of all Filipinos to continuously protect our freedom and uphold the values of patriotism, self-reliance and service and reaffirmed the Philippine government’s commitment to promote the welfare of Filipinos both at home and overseas and ensure that all live a life with dignity, work with purpose and freely pursue their dreams.

The event was capped with the ceremonial cutting of the Philippine Independence cake led by Ambassador Raymond R.Balatbat and witnessed by heads of attached agencies comprised of MWO-Al Khobar, MWO-Riyadh, Office of the Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attaché, OWWA, SSS and PagIbig.

128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence

In the spirit of “community that embraces diversity”, Nesto Hypermarket and Mark and Save Hypermarket, two of the biggest establishments in Al Khobar, KSA, hosted various events on 12 June 2026 as a show of support to the Filipino community in its celebration of the 128th anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

At the Nesto Hypermarket Function Hall, Filipinos gathered to participate in several contests. The cooking contest showcased the culinary talent of Filipinos in preparing exotic dishes that are now globally known like adobo and desserts like halo-halo. Cooking highlights the cultural importance of food in bringing Filipinos together and the collective value of “sharing”, not only of food but of their life stories that are often funny and tragic, but nonetheless, stories of courage and resilience.

Typical of any other celebration, Filipinos were also agog in taking part in the singing and dancing contests where they flaunted their vocal prowess in singing a repertoire of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) and in exhibiting their creative and breathtaking dance moves. Audiences were also treated to Philippine cultural dance intermissions that depicted Filipinos’ struggles, longings and dreams as a people.

Earlier in the day, Filipinos’ love for indoor sports was apparent in the high turn-out of Filipino players who participated in the Bowling Tournament held at the Al Gosaibi Sports Complex in Al Khobar. Dart enthusiasts likewise flocked the Dart Tournament hosted at the Nesto Hypermarket.

The events in both Nesto Hypermarket and Mark and Save Hypermarket were capped with the ceremonial cutting of the Philippine Independence cake led by officials of the said establishments and joined in by officials of the Kalayaan Executive Committee headed by Labor Attaché Solaiman C. Mutia represented by Gelyn H. Alpuerto and Basher A. Ammad, both staff of MWO-AlKhobar, and Event President Raymond O. Ibañez representing the Filipino community.
