I was around 15 or 16 years old when Seychelles gained its Independence. While I did not travel to Victoria to witness the celebrations firsthand, I watched our country begin a new chapter and saw many important developments unfold in the years that followed.

I still remember the opening of the airport and the opportunities that came with a growing nation. Like many Seychellois, I started from humble beginnings. My first job was washing dishes in a kitchen. From there, through hard work, perseverance and making the most of the opportunities available to me, I built the life and business I have today.

The journey of Seychelles over the past 50 years reminds us that progress does not happen overnight. There have been challenges along the way, but there have also been many opportunities for those willing to work hard and believe in themselves.

My message to the younger generation is simple: stay positive, value the sacrifices made by those who came before you and make the most of the opportunities in front of you. Build something meaningful, leave a legacy and help create an even brighter future for the generations that follow.

As we celebrate 50 years of Independence, I would like to wish all Seychellois a happy Independence anniversary. May we continue working together to bring prosperity to our country and our people. 🇸🇨

From one region to the next, participants embraced the spirit of Seychelles’ 50th Independence Anniversary with impressive displays of creativity, pride and patriotism. My name is Alizée, and I am 10 years old. 🇸🇨

When I dance on international stages, I am not just performing for myself. I am representing Seychelles. Every time I carry our flag, I carry the pride, culture and spirit of our people with me.

I do not want the world to see only me. I want the world to see Seychelles too — our talent, our beauty and everything that makes us special.

As a child of Independence, I am grateful to all those who came before us and helped build the Seychelles we know today. Thank you to our ancestors and to everyone who played a part in shaping our nation and creating opportunities for future generations.

Happy 50th Independence anniversary to all Seychellois. May we continue to make our country proud for many years to come. 💙💛❤️💚🤍

One of my most memorable experiences from those days was serving as the driver for members of the Royal Family during their visit to Seychelles. It was a responsibility I took very seriously. Every detail mattered, even something as simple as maintaining the correct distance behind the es**rt motorcycle. Their safety was in my hands, and I am proud to say that everything went smoothly.

I also remember being given a small coin and a souvenir saucer by a member of the Royal Family. At the time, I was more interested in receiving my pay than keeping the gifts. Looking back today, I wish I had held on to them. They would have been a wonderful reminder of a very special moment in my life and a unique connection to an important period in our nation’s history.

Over the past 50 years, Seychelles has achieved a great deal. We have seen development, progress and opportunities that many could only have imagined back then. Looking at where we are today, I believe we have come a long way as a country.

My hope for the future is that our young people continue to make the most of the opportunities available to them and help drive Seychelles even further forward.

As we celebrate this Golden Jubilee, I would like to wish all Seychellois a very happy 50th Independence anniversary. 🇸🇨

Praslin, you certainly gave the judges something to think about!

Yesterday, the Home Beautification Competition judging team continued its journey across the islands, visiting homes that have embraced the spirit of Seychelles’ 50th Independence Anniversary in their own unique way.

From eye-catching gardens and colourful displays to creative touches inspired by our national colours, participants brought plenty of personality, pride and passion to their entries.

What makes this competition so special is that every home tells a different story. Some impressed with their landscaping, others with their attention to detail, and a few left the judges stopping for a second look.

The big question is: who will come out on top?

For now, the judges are keeping their scorecards close, but one thing is certain. The competition is shaping up to be a very close one.

Next stop? Mahé!

Stay tuned as we bring you more highlights from the road and a closer look at the homes helping to celebrate 50 years of Independence, one garden at a time. 🇸🇨

I was only six years old when Seychelles gained its Independence. At that age, I did not fully understand what Independence meant. What I did know was that our flag had changed and that something important had happened in our country. We had a President, and I understood that Seychelles was entering a new chapter.

Looking back over the last 50 years, one of the biggest changes I have seen has been in the social sector. As a nation, we began putting structures, services and laws in place to address issues that were once rarely discussed. Matters that were often treated as taboo are now recognised and addressed through support systems designed to protect and empower people.

One example is child protection. In the past, children facing difficult situations had very few places to turn. Today, we have institutions, policies and legal frameworks that help safeguard children and promote their wellbeing. This reflects how far Seychelles has come in caring for its people and building a more supportive society.

As we look towards the next 50 years, my hope is that we continue progressing together. I would like to see every Seychellois, both young and old, take responsibility for helping our country grow and develop. I also hope that Seychelles continues to protect its sovereignty and remains the peaceful and blessed nation we are proud to call home.

As we celebrate this important milestone, I would like to wish all Seychellois a very happy 50th Independence anniversary. 🇸🇨
