I was around 15 or 16 years old when Seychelles gained its Independence. While I did not travel to Victoria to witness the celebrations firsthand, I watched our country begin a new chapter and saw many important developments unfold in the years that followed.
I still remember the opening of the airport and the opportunities that came with a growing nation. Like many Seychellois, I started from humble beginnings. My first job was washing dishes in a kitchen. From there, through hard work, perseverance and making the most of the opportunities available to me, I built the life and business I have today.
The journey of Seychelles over the past 50 years reminds us that progress does not happen overnight. There have been challenges along the way, but there have also been many opportunities for those willing to work hard and believe in themselves.
My message to the younger generation is simple: stay positive, value the sacrifices made by those who came before you and make the most of the opportunities in front of you. Build something meaningful, leave a legacy and help create an even brighter future for the generations that follow.
As we celebrate 50 years of Independence, I would like to wish all Seychellois a happy Independence anniversary. May we continue working together to bring prosperity to our country and our people. 🇸🇨
