Seychelles Police Force Officially Launches Historic Commissioners’ Committee
In a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening police leadership, preserving institutional memory, and elevating public confidence, the Seychelles Police Force today officially launched the **Police Commissioners' Committee** during a formal ceremony held at the Police Headquarters Conference Room.
The event, presided over by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Godfra Hermitte, marks the fulfillment of a key strategic promise made during his swearing-in ceremony on March 24th, 2026, as the 15th Commissioner of Police.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by key leadership and distinguished guests of honour, including:
Mr. James Camille Minister for Homeland Security and Civil Affairs, Ms. Sheryl Vengadasamy Principal Secretary for Homeland Security and Civil Affairs, Members of the Police Executive Board, Senior Officers, and distinguished former police leaders.
A Bridge Between History and Future Aspirations
The newly established committee creates an advisory forum where former Police Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and Assistant Commissioners come together to exchange strategic ideas, share operational insights, and advise on key administrative and management affairs affecting the force.
Collectively, the veteran leaders in attendance represent **over 450 years of active service and institutional experience** within the Seychelles Police Force.
In his official address, Commissioner Godfra Hermitte stressed that this extensive expertise is an invaluable national resource:
Policing is a profession built not only on laws and procedures but also on experience, wisdom, leadership, and institutional memory. The knowledge you have gained over the years is an invaluable national asset which cannot be left to waste... Once a cop, always a cop, and you are back where you belong in a different role.
The Commissioners’ Committee is structured to serve as a trusted source of strategic guidance. By bridging past lessons with modern aspirations, the committee will assist current police leadership in:
1. Consolidating solid administrative foundations and operational rigor.
2. Shaping policy and leadership strategies to combat modern criminal trends.
3. Inspiring younger officers as they build long-term, professional careers within the force.
4. Strengthening public trust and confidence across the country.
