#Taiwan’s exclusion from the WHO drew a lot of international attention in the wake of the #COVID19 outbreak, ultimately leading to the organization finally allowing Taiwanese experts to take part in a recent closed-door meeting. We’d like to thank the 127 parliamentarians from 14 European countries, #CzechRepublic, #Lithuania, #Estonia, #Germany, the #Netherlands, #Ireland, #Austria, #Slovakia, #Hungary, #Spain, #Italy, the #UK, #Latvia and #Portugal, who also signed letters to WHO director-general, Tedros Adhanom, calling for Taiwan's inclusion in the organization. 71 Czech deputies and senators, including Chamber of Deputies deputy speakers Petr Fiala and Vojtěch Pikal and the chair of the senate committee on foreign affairs, defence and security, Pavel Fischer, signed the letter.

We'd like to thank the Riksdag members from #Sweden who have spoken up on the issue on several occasions. We also noticed that the Taiwan-Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Group has submitted 5 written questions and 4 oral questions requesting action on Taiwan's exclusion from the WHO. Foreign minister Ann Linde responded saying the government will work with the EU to support Taiwan's accession to the organization.

In her response to written questions by Swedish MPs Hans Rothenberg, Björn Söder, Boriana Åberg, and Tobias Andersson regarding Taiwan’s participation in WHO and the work with countering the coronavirus, the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde replied:

As I have stated in previous replies to the Riksdag, it is in the interest of both Sweden and EU that Taiwan participates in international organisations. The international work with the coronavirus is one example of a field where it is reasonable and desirable that Taiwan participates. EU, and thereby Sweden, has expressed that we want to find practical solutions for how Taiwan can be included in WHO’s work.

Thank you for the reply – and big thanks to MPs Hans Rothenberg, Björn Söder, Boriana Åberg, and Tobias Andersson for asking! 😀👏

Coronavirusets spridning och Taiwans deltagande i WHO Skriftlig fråga 2019/20:889 Boriana Åberg (M) - Riksdagen

Great initiative Boriana! 👏👍

Boriana Åberg is a Member of the Swedish Riksdag (Moderate Party) and Chairperson of the Swedish-Taiwanese Parliamentarian Association. Yesterday, she submitted a written question to Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde, asking what measures the minister is prepared to adopt in order for Taiwan to be included in WHO’s efforts with countering the spread of the novel coronavirus.

As Boriana Åberg also mentions in her written question to the Minister for Foreign Affairs: The health of the world population should definitely be more important than China’s interest of blocking Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Organization!

Thank you Boriana for raising this important question! 🇸🇪🤝🇹🇼

Sweden Democrats MP Tobias Andersson has also submitted a written question to Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde regarding the coronavirus and Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Organization (WHO).

As Tobias mentions in his question to the minister, USA 🇺🇸 Japan 🇯🇵 Canada 🇨🇦 and EU 🇪🇺 have all publicly expressed support for Taiwan to be able to participate in WHO. Hopefully Sweden can do the same! 🇹🇼🇸🇪

Tack så mycket Björn! 😀👍

Yesterday, Sweden Democrats MP Björn Söder submitted a written question to Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde, asking the minister if she will act in order for Taiwan to be allowed to participate in the World Health Organization (WHO). Thank you very much Björn, we really appreciate it! 🇸🇪🤝🇹🇼
