A Tribute message to Mr Mohamad Affendy Abdul Rahim
Mohamad Affendy bin Abdul Rahim was a dedicated Singaporean opposition figure with a political career spanning decades.
At age 31, working as an insurance agent, he contested the 1988 General Election for the National Solidarity Party in Kebun Baru SMC, garnering 24.6% of valid votes against PAP’s Lim Boon Heng.
In later years, he was associated with the Reform Party, before joining former RP colleagues to help establish the Singapore United Party in December 2020.
As a pro-tem committee member, he contributed to building the new party focused on key public concerns including housing, healthcare, and CPF matters, remaining committed to offering alternative representation for Singaporeans throughout his life.
It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Mr Mohamad Affendy bin Abdul Rahim, a steadfast advocate who served Singapore’s political landscape with conviction across more than three decades.
From stepping forward as a 31-year-old insurance agent representing the National Solidarity Party in the 1988 Kebun Baru election, to lending his experience and effort to the formation of the Singapore United Party in 2020, Mr Affendy remained dedicated to giving voice to ordinary citizens. He stood firm in his belief in diverse representation, and worked quietly but tirelessly on matters that matter most to people: their homes, livelihoods, healthcare and security.
His legacy is one of courage to serve, and commitment to building a better, more inclusive Singapore.
We honour his contributions, and remember him with profound respect.
